305 Leaking Oil From Bolt Hole
Hi! I recently purchased a 1990 Trans Am and it has a 1980-1985 305 swapped into it. I bought it non-running and just got it running today by sticking in some new plugs. When it fired up I noticed there was oil leaking. There is a place right next to what I believe is my fuel pump. In the picture there are 2 bolt holes. The top bolt hole is gushing out oil. What is the purpose of this? Can I cap it off and be OK? If so should I cap both? Oil pressure seemed fine and motor sounded healthy while it was running. Thanks!

If I remember correctly, there's two on the other side also. I think these were used for different kind of motor mounts, or something along those lines. At any rate, plug the hole with a 3/8" bolt no longer than 1/2" long (or it might bottom out into the fuel pump push rod).

yup, just put a short bolt in there to cap the oil off.
the purpose of the hole is to gently seat a longer bolt up against the fuelpump pushrod, to hold it in place while changing the mechanical pump. just makes it a lil easier.

The others will not leak unless there was an issue with core shift, etc. I'd just throw bolts in there anyways so it matches and to mitigate confusion later. Having a "why is there a threaded hole but no bolt in it? What did I lose!" moment can cause a bit of panic until you remember why there's nothing in there.
