I have a new engine in my iroc and it has about 10 thousand miles on it and i have ran about 2000 of those miles hard. I was wondering what effect this does on my engine.

Car: No more birdy
What kind of hard are you talking about?
Any abuse on anything will cause premature failure. An engine can be built to handle a degree of abuse like a race engine but even the builder knows its eventually going to fall apart. People who drag race pray an engine lasts a season but its not a huge supprise when it grenades at the track.
Only abuse an engine when there is a good reason and it will last a long time.

what you mean by "hard" probably isnt anything that crazy...unless your revving to like 6k and arent dropping it in drive at 5000rpm or crazy **** like that you should be alright

What would be the point of having a fast car if you don't run it hard. Then again, I remember a quote from someone, "It's not about going fast all the time, it's knowing I can go fast when I want" or something like that. Never taking it above 4500 rpms doesn't seem to be rough at all. I hear babying the engine can be just as bad.

What are you asking about? Your new engine being driven hard? Or our whatever decade old engines?
When they our cars first came out, Yes they were to be driven hard, they were made to handle it. I'm sure if you broke your new engine in for atleast 1000 miles, I'm sure now you can rip rip. But today our (old) engines are old. Don't drive them too hard, just a couple heres and theres, unless ya don't cares. Hehe.

haha yeah I know its the same block and heads, but just a complete rebuild. I'm sure I will be fine I was just wondering how bad it is on the rings, but I guess I'll be fine then. I havent had this engine over 5 grand yet.

Well, assuming you kept your foot out of it for the first couple thousand miles, you should be fine. I wouldn't go flooring it as soon as you turn it on in the morning, but once your oil is warm, let it rip. But driving hard is hard on more than the motor. Your transmission will go sooner and your suspension parts will wear out faster.

I have it at like 3/4 throttle. I dont floor it like spinning the tires, but ya know what I mean. I should be fine now I guess im just mainly using a lot of gas...lol

piston motors can be driven hard but you will put a lot of wear on the motor. think about it. your pistons move back and forth in a very nasty motion which is going to put stress on the crank, rods, piston and dont forget the valvtrain also doing the same thing with your valvesprings ,lifters and so forth.
those parts will start to wear out very quick if you keep reving it up high all the time.
now once every now and then prolly will not do all that much damage but keep it up all the time and your motor is not going to like you.
also since you are making the speed of all the parts go up on top of just the force from the back and forth movement you are going to have a higher wear. on the block and all those other moving parts..
then there is lucky me
I take my motor up to 7000-8000 almost everyday with 171k on motor (well will be soon once I put that motor back in)
I admit I rev it a lot more then I prolly should but so far no problems.
also helps keep the carbon build up out of my seals which will kill my power.
baby this thing is bad... more carbon... not good.... so I am very rev happy
