Getting into a race

I have been trying to convince someone to race me. Every time I try to race someone They don't even pay attention to me. My question is how do you guys get someone to race against you? Either highway or light to light racing is fine. I actually had one guy decide that he wanted to race me, but we both had two cars in front of us. I'll never understand some people.

the best way is to just ask them. if they dont wanna race you its probably cause they know your car is faster. dont show anyone your engine or talk about your mods to anyone you plan to race cause who wants to loose a race. they listen to the sound of the car and and the way it looks. so if you get any races they will be from other fast cars and they could be faster than yours.

Car: No more birdy
The best and easyest way to race is to find people at work or school that want to do it up. The way you find races on the street is find someone with an atitude "stickers on thier car are the key to this" Catch up with them or line up with them at the light look over at them smile and rev your engine and knod ahead. If they rev thier car your on!

Considering a lot of the people on this board seem to have no problem with other people asking them to race, or convincing people to race, I have one more question. Anyone know of any common street racing spots in northern New Jersey?

Is there such a thing as a street racing place in New Jersey? I really don't want to drive to Brooklyn to race my car, and I don't feel like having to pay people when I lose.

How far is Philly from where you live? There are several hangouts there. They also have a web site, 'streetracing.com' not sure the name. Labor day weekend is big, E-town has Mustangs vs Grand Nationals and everyone comes out to play.

Ok, I know Ocean County isn't northern New Jersey, but if you ever are in the area, look into hanging out on 37 on Friday nights (happens to be the busiest night)... Light to light racing at it's best.

To initiate racing, either have some music blasting or your engine rumblin, and look over at them, you'll know what's up when you see what the other guy is doing... when in doubt, floor it anyway, they may speed up and pull up to you at the next light realizing you wanted to race and you're worthy...

My car sounds like turds in a toilet bowl, but with the music up, I still race 'Stangs, Porshe's and Beemers (and loose, but I do it for the adrenaline rush, not the satistfaction of winning, although it's always nice).

Good luck, and be safe...

Yeah if you want to have some fun with cool cars you can always find them on 37 in Toms River. Around midnight you can usually find parking lots filled with cars, just people hanging out. Alot of fun I would definetly say check it out friday and saturday nights just be careful of cops obviously though i've been lucky with them so far.

For the most part they are cool there to. And you will see a little of everything there. If your looking to race this is one of the most known spots i know to do it and have some fun. I think its exit 82 off the parkway and as soon as you get off you are on it. It's best to go with some friends so you can cruise up and down then chill for a while.

Alright i'm done anyway have fun.

Wow, check it out... people actually live down here...

If you ever see a long haired kid in a black sport coupe that gives you the 'metal' sign out his window, you'll know it's me... I 'metal' just about every Camaro/Firebird I see, just because I'm a dork like that...

Perhaps I shouldn't race... save a little face... Racing people with a broken 6er...

I live in Northern Jersey , Morris County. Where ya live in North Jersey? If you go to Morristown at night on a weekend there are alot of rice boys and stangs just cruising around. I bet you could find some races there if you advertise well, haha. O go to East Hanover too, RICE BOY CENTRAL! If you know where the Wendy's is on Route 10 in East Hanover, go there at like midnight and the parking lot will be filled with ricers. Like close to 20 ricers just packing this lot. haha i love goin in there with my black 86 Z28 and revving at all of em. When i pull in everything goes quiet and the riceboys just stand there staring. Its really funny. Check it Out! Later.

First of all - roflmfao for a 5 yr old thread.

Second, I wanted to comment on the quote from 5.0s r Slow. That comment is just not true. There have been many times that I haven't raced another person because ...

a) Bad street for racing. The Speed limit only goes to like 25mph.
b) Bad street for racing. Neighborhood with kids that usually cross the street.
c) Bad street for racing. Known police hangout.
d) Bad street for racing. Stop sign 1 block ahead.
e) Car next to me isn't worth the gas.

Basically, I'm not going to put other people in danger, risk a ticket, or waste gas on a group of teenagers in mom's MiniVan.

I wouldnt race him and Im pretty sure my cars faster... Some people dont like to street race bottem line. They have worked too hard and spent too much time and effort on their vehicles to lose it to a gay stop light battle that proves nothing.

Other people enjoy the rush, the fact they might get caught, and the bragging rights of a win.

I remember being down in NJ with my 5.0. Every tool in their import and fbody (and Mustang, go figure) would rev and try to tempt me to race. When I wouldnt they had this ego to themselves because they thought they intimidated me... Nope I would rather have a timeslip than a ticket to prove how fast I am ANY day of the week!

When someone wants to race on the street, I usually just hit the two-step real quick, then they get this wide-eyed look on their face, and no longer want to race. I don't know why?

i'll tell you the easiest way to get races. put a big ol cowl hood on and a **** on imports sticker its worked too well for me, i've turned down a few races just to save the risk of getting spotted by the smokey and to save gas. most of the time you can tell when someone will race you or not just by their body language in the car and mostly by what they are driving. just don't be sleeping at the light, you don't want to be caught off guard sleeping at the light and have a piece of junk get you off the line. go luck, justin

Are you talking about like organized street racing or just your run of the mill stoplight contest? If it's the first, get to the spot early and don't trailer it! For some reason everyone is scared to run a domestic V8 with a lopey cam on a trailer, don't know why In all reality though, word gets around QUICK, so you get 1, maybe 2 shots at making your money before nobody will race you anymore.

From stoplight to stoplight, pace them, give them a rev, buck the car a little...let them know you're interested. If the other car is something that's obviously pretty modified, and yours isn't, they probably won't bother. Most of the time, when slower cars pull up beside me and want to race, I'll just hit the 2-step for a second, or if I've got anything in the line, I'll purge, and they change their minds real fast.

If all else fails, call them out on the local racer's site and then they have to run you or everyone will think they're a little bitch.

Ah Local street racing boards...they are great for stirring up the scene and findng some action.

When i'm out rumbling around the streets i dont generally look for races,i let them find me.But when i'm in the right mood i'll crush somebodys ego if they need it. I keep getting people around my age(i'm 20) trying me with their fart cannoned civics and stuff. I always get them doing fly by's on me, i throw a rev to show them i'm game for the next time. Almost every time i throw the "game on" rev they all back off and stop trying...i guess my car sounds pretty intimidating. I've only really let it go on the street once or twice to prove i'm faster than the guy tryin to get me going. It only took me to mid way through second to get the point across to the "challenger" They just stopped trying after that

They have been "cracking" down on street racing for a while around my area...They recently have a "blitz" on street racing where they pulled over something like 200 cars in a matter of 2 hours. Not one street racing or careless driving charge was laid, but they handed out many tickets for improper paper work, not wearing a seat belt and such.

They also performed this "street racing blitz" from 4pm until 6pm...It was blown out of proportion and horribly skewed in the news paper to make it look like there is a street racing epidemic in Ottawa. Needless to say this caused a huge uproar from the hundreds of automotive enthusiasts in and around the city. The whole "blitz" put a bad imagine onto everybody that drives a modified car.

The local police are known to find groups of modded cars together, run the plates and put them into the system as "street racers" and from then on if an officer runs your plate even if your not breaking the law. They will do "routine checks" on you and your vehicle to make sure your not out street racing or that the car doesnt have "illegal street racing products" installed on it.

Re: Getting into a race

Tell them your stock, I was able to convince a ***** that my 77 Monte Carlo still had the stock 305 in it when it has whats in my signature. Also conned a guy with a turbo 240 swap that my old 77 Vette had a 305 in it, when it had an aluminum headed 350 in it, then again with another guy with a modded Subaru. It is very easy to do, just dont get conned yourself! I also paint everything the factory color, so at a quick glance it does look stock, dented valve covers, all painted blue, with a stock style air cleaner with the lid flipped is a good one! I know when I get around to building my 350 for my Z28 its going to retain the HO dual snorkel air cleaner, just for the fact it really "quiets" up the other performance mods you have!

Re: Getting into a race

The more you drive the more races you will find.
I usually drive 35,000 miles a year now and it used to be 70,000+ a year.

Like previously stated the races usually come to me..I do search one out now and then.
I raced my 57 4 door vs my buddies 57 2 door he got me by a length and I had to buy lunch for the mechanics in the shop.
I really thought I could take him.
I can now as i no longer have 336 gears or the iron Q jet intake..I have 370 gears and performer rpm intake and I do not think he wants to race now.

Re: Getting into a race

Worlds oldest thread LOL

Op in jail for street racing?

First time I ever had my camino out some guy in a toyota truck was trying to go for it.

Got that out of the system yrs ago or so I thought ran a RUF Porsche about 4 of us almost died
Took the car apart for 10 yrs.

4th time out did it again BMW M5 F10 tuned by Dinan that car from 100up was friggin FAST. Last time I street raced. Dead heat. 6800 in 4th realized the consequences would never do it again ever. We both got off the fwy quick talked for a min and got the hell out of there. Jail sucks gents.

Run the track a few times you wont realize it but goinghome youll lose all desire to run on the st. Strange.
