your top 5 parts for a fast street 3rd gen?
so what are the first 5 things you'd do to make a fast street/strip type 3rd gen?
what pays off the most?
power adders?
rear?
exhaust?
motor swap?
trans brake?
tires?
etc?
what's your thoughts? what would you do if you could only do 5 first, and why?
just bench racing. have fun all!!!

Being such a general question with a wide array of engine trans combos and vehicle weights, I'll give you my best General educated guess.
1.) TIRES!!!
2.) Rear suspension
3.) Weight reduction
4.) Drivetrain upgrade (motor, trans, rearend)
5.)supporting mods ie: converter/clutch, exhaust, induction, Safety Equipment, etc..
My logic:
1.) spinning isn't winning
2.) see #1
3.)lighter the car, faster you go with same power
4.)Stock 10bolts and 700r4's are weak! Nothing sucks more than building a killer motor to fry your tranny or rear end!
5.)mismatched parts are inefficient! Why have a 2200 stall when your power band starts at 3500, why use 17/8" headers when your only making 400rwhp.
You need to take in more air(ideally cooler) to make more power. If you drop a few $100 on a N2O system why not an extra $40 for a fire extinguisher. DS loop helps prevent getting jacked up from a broken ft ujoint, harnesses help you stay in one place. Cages keep you alive if you rollover or crash at high speeds etc,

Brutal, thanx.
just having a fun bench talk.
i really agree about tires, rear and converter.
IMO, (which means nothing), HP isnt as big a factor as most think.
"hooking" and leaving the line mean a lot.
thanx for your input.

Power adder will gain you the most HP for the price but if you can't get the extra spent gasses out, or get power to the ground it's not going to help you much.
My list would be
1) headers/exhaust system
2) rear end work. Not so much a better beefier rear end, just good gears 3.42, 3.73 and a good posi unit.
3) sub frame connectors
4) great tires
5) Good cylinder heads.
*Notes* On #2 we all know the 10 bolt is weak, but if we are just talking about a stock third gen and the 5 1st best things to do, I don't see the need in a $2500 rear end yet.

Re: your top 5 parts for a fast street 3rd gen?
Starting fresh (not using parts already have) ....
1.) Weight reduction
2.) Suspension & BRAKES (ALL OF IT )
3.) Cage
4.) Drivetrane (engine, trans,rear)
5.) Rims & Tires
First, I'd strip her down to the bone, getting rid of all the factory sound deadining, carpet, seats (rear) & wiring (computer and any unnecessary related wiring) . With all that out of the way, subframe connectors get welded in,then the cage, front K member &tubular control arms, trans x member (no torque arm mount needed) , weld in Extreme Duty rear torque arm x member, cromoly hiem ended double adjustable control arms & panhard bar. Upgrade to the biggest rotors (x drilled & slotted ) that will fit the front runners & drag brakes for the rear ((Dana or 9"). Buy the rim & tire package that fits what you have set up.
Drivetrane. ... best bang for buck, outta the box. ... 6.0 ,6.3 Ls & a 6spd with no less than a Dana 44 if you can't afford the 9".

Without knowing what base you are starting with i'd have to agree with fastfbody
1 Lsx motor swap. Can get 4.8-5.3 with trans for 700-1200$.
2 Nitrous or home fab turbo for power
3 Suspension cuz stock springs shocks and bushings dont cut it.
4 tire to hook for sure
5 4th gen gas tank with dual intank 255's for the power if turbo. 600whp is fairly easy to get with boost
If rear dont have posi get a 4th gen rear. It will hold moderate power and run decent times for alittle while.
