try PMing Sitting Bull, i know he's got his 305 running around the 300 hp range. Also search for a huge article by Sitting Bull a while back which showed you how to port and polish your 305 heads to make them flow i think something like 90% of what vortec heads would flow which is damn good in my opinion. Anyways good luck to you

Sitting bull is full of ****. He's never even been near a track let alone a dyno, his 300hp estimate is pie in the sky dreaming. Hell, along with his 300hp estimate he'll also proudly proclaim that the same simulators say he'd run mid 14s. So i guess my stock LB9 is making 350hp then.
If you want to make 300hp for under $1500, go straight to a 350 and don't look back. Any basic 350 with a mild cam can easily make 300hp. True 300hp 305s are not that common for a reason. At the least it'd have to be a well matched combo and be near perfectly tuned.

listen to ed on this
i'm sure if you ported you lb9 heads with a 1.94 valve job, and put a comp 212-218 cam, then do the chip you should atlleast be 280 hp , now i no for the stock exhaust systems on my 86 305 tpi ,it has the 3 inch stock, with the 3.42 gears,
i'm telling you here 1500 dollars won't be enough to run in the 14;s with peanut cammed 305 ,thats my opinion
