Im fixing to pull my fuel pump b/c of all the problems im having with 18psi fuel pressure.

When i get the pump out is there anyway to test it to make sure it is really bad?

It is going to be a little easier to test the pump in place.

The first thing to do is test the voltage as near the pump as you can. These pumps are quite sensitive to low voltage. Runnign the pump at 13.5V for the tests would be a good idea.

The next step would be to verify pum volume output. Make sure teh pump can deliver at least a full pint of fuel in less than 15 seconds.

If that passes, test the peak pressure by blocking the fuel return line from the FPR. Only test the pump briefly in this manner, since the dead-headed pump will be under considerable stress to make 65 PSIG or so.

If all that is in order, the pump is fine, and you have other problems, such as the regulator.

Thanks Vador. I just dont think its the pump. Its 1 year old and it has the same nice high pitch *whine* as it did brand new. Im going tinker with it alittle more before i replace it. Im only getting 10-18psi sometimes its a steady 18psi and then sometimes it bounces real fast from 10-18psi steadily. Is it possible the regulator could staying open? Is it a good idea to run compressed air @50-80 psi throught the return line and sending line, forward and backwards?

i made something up to hook my pressure regulator to the sending line directly. im still only getting 10-20 psi sometimes it will fluctuate and some times its steady 18psi. Im in the process right now of pulling the pump. ill update you when im done.

did you ever get the pump replaced? I am having similar problems and am going to replace my pump soon. any tips?
