Every Chevy V8 ever made (at least, 1955-1997) has a firing order of 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. Actually, I believe this covers almost any GM V8 (big block, Buick, Pontiac, Caddy, Olds)
The driver's side front of the engine is #1, with the rest of the driver's side being 3-5-7.
Passenger side front is #2, with the rest being 4-6-8.

The tower closest to #1 cylinder would be #1. It would be on the drivers side, towards the front of the car pointing in the direction of #1-#3 cylinders. Then you go clockwise.
