My charcoal canister is getting saturated with gas. This started happening after I replaced the vacuum lines that were dry-rotted. I had the lines hooked up wrong, but replaced the canister & hooked the lines back up correctly & it is
still getting saturated. Then I replaced the canister again along with a brand new purge valve, gas cap & PCV; double then triple checked the vacuum lines, but it still is getting saturated with gas.
Is there anything else that would cause the charcoal canister to become saturated with gas?
BTW I did not over fill the gas tank.

Is the purge solenoid valve operating? If you supply power to it directly, does it switch on? You can do this with the engine idling and will notice a distinct change in idle. That will indicate whether the system is functioning and if the vacuum lines are connected correctly.

Thanks for the reply Vader, I did just as you suggested & tested the solenoid. It's operating correctly..
I remembered that I started having this problem after I went thru emission testing & failed the pressure test. I went out a got a new gas cap, not realizing the a$$hole who sold me the car had put on a vented cap to hide the fact that the fuel return line & the vapor/purge lines are switched. (thanks to my friend who did a simple test with some kind of a pump) So when I put the non-vented cap on.....
Looks like I have a project ahead of me. I hope there is an easy way to do this, I've heard about droppin the rear end & gas tank method.

With the vapor canister drawing from the return port, it's no wonder it slugs the evap canister with raw fuel. At least you've found it.

If the return and vapor lines are switched at the tank, there may be no need to remove the tank. Both lines should be rated for fuel, and you should be able to clean the hoses and read them to verify that. There should be no pressure on the return line that close to the tank, so the return line doesn't have to be rated for any significant pressure. It would be tempting to change the lines NEAR the tank and see how it works.

Then again, it might be good to make certain the hoses are clamped properly, and if the vapor hose being used is not fuel rated (for whatever reason) you would need to change it.

hi guys, i am having a similar problem with my blazer. the canister smells of fuel, and i was getting terrible milage...like 11-13mpg. i was thinking the the diaphram in the FPR went south, but this seems like a more likely cause. i was 99% sure i had the lines right when i swapped pumps, but maybe not.

im getting a new tank and walbro255 in the spring so we will see. could the switched lines be causing the bad fuel economy? i thought these S10s were supposed to be good on gas with a V8, lol.
