Swapping from TBI/MAP to TPI/MAF

Swapping from TBI/MAP to TPI/MAF
About A year ago I picked up an 88 corvette TPI less wireing. Today I purchased a Wireing harness from an 87 GTA. I wanted to go MAP, but the fact that i cant afford a TPI harness to begin with and got the MAF harness for only $17.00,..well you get what I mean.
I know I still need the ECM and the MAF sensor, But what about my existing relays and such? will they be compatable with the new harness? any futher suggestions, ideas, or comments are greatly appreciated!

Most (if not all) of your relays and sensors should work with the older harness. One thing, off the top of my head, I know you'll need is a MAF burnoff relay. I would need to look at my books for more info. You could also try rewiring the harness for MAP if that's the way you want to go.
Also, for your info, I have an ECM from an '88 TPI 350 and MAF sensor taking up space in the garage. I think they're good, but I've never used either. Email me if you're interested.

Dont forget the 87 wire harness will have the AC on the drivers side, and alternator on the passenger side, along with having V-belt accessories, while the 88 setup is serpentine. The wire for the sensors will be in the wrong place.

the burnoff relay is the same relay used for the fans. get 2 because you need 1 to power up the burnoff circuit and one that actually sends the relay power to the MAF. they are cheap and you can usually snag some at the salvage yard. they are the 2 closest to the fender and located on the drivers side fire wall.

Yes, the Alt. does run to a seperate harness but the AC compressor has one wire that will go to the ECM. One other thing, The ECM triggers the electric fans as well, which fan does your engine have, mechanical, electrical, single or dual? Is it the same system as the donor car?

I love when I see Members tell others to Search, then when they do & post in an old post that relates to their question for the answer......They are told that the Post is dead & to go start a new thread!

Re: Swapping from TBI/MAP to TPI/MAF
the fan circuit goes thru the c207 harness on that harness where as the tbi harness it is in the firewall or c100 harness. i did the swap myself 2 yrs ago and ran the fan wire from the fuse box to the connector next to the computer or c207. search the threads in lt/ls swaps and youll find all the info you need. good luck
