Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
So then I dont need a EGR with the EGR Temp sensor right? All I need is the caddy EGR temp right? The caddy doesnt come with a temp sensor right? WWWWWWOOOOOOOWWWWWWW. Boy am I confused. A vacuum switch to replace the EGR Temp switch. Maby too much to ask for but could you draw a picture or a diagram to show what connects into what? Im severly confused. Your method sounds like I would like to do it your way but, I need to better understand whats going on before I make the mods.
Just got the first one in the mail and ordered a 2nd for future purposes.
$16-18 bucks on ebay. They have a website but it wasnt working right now, so you might be able to get it cheaper there.
The store name is autopartauctions.
Its there own aftermarket product. Company name is ultra-power fuel injection.
Good luck!!!!

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
I ordered one and received it from the ebay site listed a few posts up. Just to add some more info the box has the brand ultra-power fuel injection and uses the standard motors #ETS2. I found the ultra-power fuel injection website http://www.ultrapowerfuelinjection.c...let/StoreFront but the online store was down.

I just ordered one. Should have it in about three days. Good find scotts88gta!! I am not sure if they are remaking this or this is just old stock a supplier purchased but hopefully it is being produced again.
5 months after I started this post, I can finally turn my check in engine light off!! Yeah!!

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
most likely someone is making them now, typically what happens is when a supplier deems a part not worth making anymore they will sell off the dies to make them VERY cheap, another supplier will pick them up and make them for much cheaper than they used to to be

Looks like it is old surpus stock and not a new reman. I figured out where the part is actually coming from. I noticed paypal payment was sent to a company called http://www.surplusparts.com/. They are a huge parts clearance hose in TX.
Better get one while you can.

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
alright so let me see if i got this straight.... i have an 86 trans am with the TPI 305. My car idles fine and smooth but it will drop down below 500 rpms and die. i have a code 33. I have gone through the mass air flow sensor system and replaced a bad relay. everything within the MAF system is now functioning. I replaced my vacum lines today and that helped smooth it out but it is still dying when im sitting at idle for periods of time like at a stop sign or a stop light. code 33 is rough idle or MAF system. I went through the trouble shoot for the EGR silleniod (i know i mispelled that sorry) and the silleniod is bad. I have heard that a egr silleniod from an 88 caddy deville with either a 4.5 or a 4.9 would work and plug right in. well the connector on the wiring harness has two pins and the inside connector on the egr has 2 pins as well... both are the male connectors... so what did i do wrond and does anybody know if i am on the right track to fixing my car? Thanks guys

You need the pigtail that goes to the new solenoid. Splice it into your old EGR solenoid harness.

i see. well thanks for the info. sounds like i have a little more work to do then. Just out of curiousity... if i jerry rig the caddy egr so that i can test the principal would it kill the egr?

So is this what your original looks like compared to the caddy one. Also the Application was a 1995 cadillac deville with the 4.9l not an 88

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
I wouldn't think it would kill the EGR, only vacuum applies to the EGR and all this should do is cycle the vacuum going to the EGR.

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
thats very odd my 1988 camaro parts car had the later connector (same as the caddy one) weird..... regardless with the new one it will work and the part should be available for at least another 10 years (we hope) also if the solenoid is stuck open, his EGR valve will be stuck open, introducing wxhaust gases into the manifold at idle

Yep thats exactly it. i have the old connector on my ta like the one you showed on your camero and the caddy one is just like the one you showed in your picture. I will go find that pigtail then and get her wired up so that is working right and i should get some of my fuel millage back. hmmm maybe it is the IAC then that is killing my idle...

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
Actually i had to replace my MAF sensor. The people who owned the car before me put it in backwards and it broke the sensor. so a note to all aspiring mechanichs... don't put your MAF sensor in backwards or it will bust and you will be out 168 dollars... it sucks... I have actually gone completely through my MAF system. Through the relays, through the wiring... all of it... my code 33 is not due to the MAF system however i will do another check to make sure the relay is activating... and i will keep you posted on the EGR problem as well... personally i think it is one of two things left for me... either a bad IAC or a problem with the ECM please please please don't let it be the ecm!!!

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
For some reason I cannot contact these guys for the availability of the EGR Temp Harness p/n: 170402077653. Ebay tells me to Ask The Seller and I get the runaround from the links Ebay provides because I'm not currently in an open transaction with them. Drives me >
My original ceramic base is cracked but the wire that feeds into it still is intact and spins around as you twist the wire, I'm not sure if its any good
but here is a pic. You tell me whether I need one or not and how I can get one. I might as well replace the EGR as well since its 21 yrs old.

I bought one (EGR temp switch) at Carquest a year ago. I am traveling, so I can't post the part number. When I get home I can post the number if everyone is still interested. The part was $18 at the time.

Carquest discontinued them around Feb/March. 2009 the part # will not help. We have checked all this months ago. Ebay is the only source for the part right now and they know it. If you don't to pay 50.00 just bid lower on it and they will probably accept it.

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
ok here is a diagram of how this bypass swicth will work, BY THE WAY, it dawned on me that this may be a good way to bypass EGR all together WITHOUT having a new prom burnt to "turn it off" unfortuneatly i have an issue with testing this out on my motor.... its not in the car lol, but if there is anyone willing to test this out it would be awesome to see my idea come to life :P
Another vacuum operated electrical switch https://www.phatperformanceparts.com...DSVOESSWITCHES
for those of you who are more technical out there and even those who are not i also included a diagram of how my bypass system stacks up next to the temp sensor, remember the temp sensor is NOT a sensor, its a switch!

Just wanted to thank you for all the info you put into this post. Now I am having EGR issues and failed emissions today with high HC's (267, 220 allowed) I have a new temp sensor to put in, but I need to test my solenoid with the info you supplied. Thanks again. Maybe now that global warming has been thrown out as a conspiracy, emissions testing will be the next joke confirmed not to do much.

This thread is being hijacked. To close this non-related topic, all that Ill say is sea levels are rising due to carbon dioxide deposits into the atmosphere thus causing warmer air being absorbed into the air. Earth has its range of temperature that never drops below -100 and never passes 150 degrees on a natural givin day. Early 1900 pictures from glaciers in the artic show ice in between mountain ranges, now at the very same spot, there are deep empty valleys that were once filled with ice. Pictures show proof. I figured out why the EGR soleniod connector is different on some cars. The 85 & 86 TPI cars use the tube style connecter (green color below)and 87 to 92 use's the caddy style connector (blue one shown below). So guys if you have an 87 to 92 TPI car the EGR soleniod for a 1995 cadillac deville with the 4.9l should plug right in. 85 and 86you will have to get a connector for an 87 to 92 car.

The Carquest part number is: (ECC) 72-4652 EGR Switch. The "ECC" may or may not be part of the actual part number, but it is on the box proceeding the number.

For cars with older plugs for the solenoid, the 350 Truck solenoid from 87 may work. My Dad has one so I will swap it out, test it and report sometime after the holidays

it seems like the plugs were characteristic between TBI and TPI, my 88 TBI had the Metri-pack, and my 87 style TPI setup has the Weather-pack.

Whenever a volcano erupts, it spews forth thousands of times more ozone depleting "stuff", than we do, in the same given time period. Granted they only erupt occasionally. How about this... China and India's middle class is just up and coming. The amount of cars being sold in China is staggering, not to mention the pollutants from all the factories there. India is next as far as growing car sales. Their emission standards there are a joke. Unless EVERYBODY (that means everybody in the world) does something to reduce emissions, nothing good will ever come of it.
Perhaps we could commit mass genocide, as a species, to save the Earth?
I am going to keep driving my third gen and two Corvettes until they are unable to be driven. I guess if I live long enough, there might be legislation passed that bans internal combustion vehicles and then they might be forcibly taken away from me.

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued
I was wondering if my logic is flawed, but following my logic, the egr solenoid is basically a TVS, the egr solenoid works via an electric signal, and the TVS works by coolant temp. Both are just a fancy way of providing vacuum at a given time. If an egr solenoid has an inlet, an outlet , and a way to remove the vacuum created via its functioning, ie a vacuum relief port. Wouldn't any egr solenoid work, following my logic, albeit it may not mount correctly, however it would still function correctly?
Therefore, if my logic is correct, when Chevy8588 installed his Camaro one in the Cadillac, and it worked, my logic is proven. In reality you could get one from any year Camaro or Corvette, or Cadillac, and as long as you had the proper connector, your good to go!!!
I'll bet that the "General" still sells the ones for the Corvette, and the Cadillac, and all you need to do is fab up a fancy bracket, and it'll look just like it came from the factory!!!
