I did manage to fit a Dizzy cover to a TPI Plenum in my butt huggers. Your gonna laugh your a** off. I went to a junk yard and of course I had a guide follow me. I saw a 87 IROC but it had no engine or tranny. So I went to the back to look for a bolt assembly to skrew down the spare tire. as I crawled inside the cabin, I saw the dizzy cover and I needed one for my TPI. So I got the hatch open and found no bolt assembly. So I left regretting that I didnt get the dizzy cover. As I drove home I thought of a plan. I decided to wear my butt huggers (yes I wear them because I play baseball) the next day that I went to work. After work I hit the junk yard and went to the same camaro. I asked the guide (a different one) if he can check the other camaros for the bolt assembly and he said yes. As he turned away, I grabbed the dizzy cover and stashed it into huggers. Let me tell you something. Never put anything inside of the skin tight huggers. they will,, I say agian, it will shaffff the heck out of you. After 3 days of recovering from the severe rub, I finally found what I needed for free.

I'm still really nervous about the EGR temp sensor/switch that I bought on Ebay(W/shipping=$74.00 CDN).......It just worries me that the site did NOT list TPI's engine on there! Yet both Iroc's and GTA's were listed on there!

But its the sensor/switch that everyone is talking about and trying to get. I really do hope its the right one for my 87 350 TPI engine!!!! Idon't really care about the pigtail, it can be cut, and replaced with the old pigtail by soldering it back on!

Hello 84pauloflondon!!!

It says it fits 305/350 Camaro/Corvette/firebird 1985-1989, as long as you get what's pictured, and you have TPI, it should fit/work for you!!!

You shouldn't feel so bad, I bought three, and if it don't fit/work, consider yourself luckier than me!!!

All kidding aside, you should be okay with what you bought!!!

Hello again 84pauloflondon!!!

If you have a 350 TPI in a 1987 F body, your Vin engine ID digit is an 8. 305 TPI is an F. These are the only two TPI engine codes for that year and body style!!!

Hello again 84pauloflondon!!!

That was me that said something to that effect about Bluestreak!!! I had ordered the three sensors from Autopartauctions.com the day before my local NAPA parts girly got back to me about having to go through Bluestreak back east of me to get the part. She told me that it would take about a week to get it, but I told her to forget about it, as I had three coming from Texas. I highly doubt that Bluestreak has it anyways, as they don't even list it on their web site.

As for the calling in part, that was in reference to Autopartauctions.com, you can't phone in your order as they are not allowed to take your credit card info over the phone!!! That's why you have to order stuff from them via ebay!!!

Hello again 84pauloflondon!!!

Just a bit of info regarding ordering from Autopartauctions.com You do know that autopartauctions.com is closed until Jan 4th 2010, and that your order won't be processed until Jan 4th 2010 don't you? I ordered my stuff on Dec 21st, and as of Dec 29th it had just cleared customs, in Ontario I believe, it's now in Canada somewhere between Ontario, and BC!!! Hopefully Canada (mail thieves) Post doesn't misplace it!! It should take another week to go across Canada, then another week to get to me in Chilliwack!!! You should see yours by mid to end Jan 2010!!

You know! This thread reminds me a lot like a thread that Chevy8588 and I took part in back in the fall.... https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...art-story.html

There was a lot of members that took part in that one too! Here's a problem, members got on the horn, action was taken, and the results came in quickly!!!!!!

I contacted the seller on EBAY and asked him why did the prices go from low, to high. Then they replied with "eBay sent this message to Andrew Banuelos (andrew_jadira).

Dear andrew_jadira,

HI,

We purchase from several different suppliers on this part. The ones that are lower in price were purchased as obsolete stock and were sold to us at a discount. The higher priced units are from our GM dealer. Nothing illegal about offering a lower price on units that the obtained a better deal on. We just passed the saving onto our customers. Thanks.

Dear autopartauctions,

Why do you keep upping the price on this part? First they were $28, then $50, and now $85. Isnt that illegal?

he's full of crap, there is ZERO GM new old stock temp sensors in the united states in ANY of the dealers, good excuse, but a massive load of crap at the same time. he's upping the price because he has a monopoly on them and knows he can.

Dear andrew_jadira,

Hi Andrew,

We are GM parts exporters and have access to non-dealer parts from the production plants. We only have a limited number of sensors left because most all of GM small parts production is moving to China.

Dear autopartauctions,

Ohh. Okay. So what GM Dealer are you getting this part from? I ask because this part is directly related to emissions. So it is a must to have our 3rd Generation F-Body cars to have this part or else passing emissions is impossible. So I went to my local GM Dealer parts department (http://www.desertautoplaza.com) and they told me that the part is no longer available. So GM doesnt supply it anymore but you mentioned that you get the part from a GM Dealer. So what dealer are you getting it from?

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued

sounds bunk to me, but infortunately he can price them however he wants, gm doesnt just have a pile of them laying around in a factory collecting dust somewhere, nor would gm start producing a part discontinued by themselves over a decade ago just to sell on ebay, and they sure as hell wouldnt export it seeing as no cars over seas ever saw the tuned port injection motor. like i said, he's lying through his teeth. some company like GP sorenson or bosch or BWD probably had a crate of the damn things laying in a corner somewhere on the highest shelf in the very back of their back stock storage in a plant that they found and auctioned off and this guy bought them up and is selling them for 300% mark up and turning a fortune, supply and demand, he has the whole supply and demand is high, so he's raising prices

Funny that you mentioned supply and demand. I just shot em a message stating that there is an issue with supply and demand.

Thankx for asking, but no not yet! I've been busy at work. But I do have a belt slack problem though! My 87 GTA is a single belt system, and there is NO spot on my Alt to put a 1/2 or 3/8 rachet on it, to set the belt tension. My belt keeps on squiling on the alt pulley. I got it tight now using a pry bar.......not the best way to do it......but the only way for now!

Hello 84pauloflondon!!!

I just received my parts today from Autopartauctions.com and just to let you know, it's the right part as pictured, it even has the correct GM part # 14087416 on it!!!!

For the rest of you TGO members, and guests out there, there is qty (1) one at $85.00 the rest are still at $50.00

On a last note, my

It's up to the seller to name a price, if the buyer doesn't want to pay that price, the buyer doesn't get the part, and shops elsewhere's!!! Over time, the seller "might" come down in price, however, it's still up to the seller to name the price!!! It sucks, but that's the way it works!!!

I got it tight now using a pry bar.......not the best way to do it......but the only way for now!
Hello 84pauloflondon!!!

Did you get the PM reply from me, about your other problem??

87IROC-DAN61- Yes, I got your PM regrading the AC temp door......Thank you for the helpful info, I'll send that to her!

Chevy8588- Regrading the auto belt tensioner:
I do not have a serpentine belt! 87 uses a 4 belt system:

1 serpentine belt- Alt, water, crank
1 V belt- Crank, water, power steer, AC
1 V belt- Crank, power steer
1 V belt- Water, smog pump

I have NO auto tensioner!!! Only the AC has the 1/2 inch drive hole!

Hello 84pauloflondon!!!

I'm glad to be of assistance in regards to the PM!!!!

I hear you on the belt tension problem!! I don't have AC, but I have a three belt system, and it sure can be a bear to tension the alt belt, I use a pry bar also!!!

The real problem for me, is the power steering belt, I come up from below with a hammer pushed up by a trolley jack, it took a little while to figure something out that would work to keep tension on the belt, while I did up the bolts!!!

Off topic......I Know, but until we find another supplier, this thread has ran its course!

Gm has a kit out there that replces our Multi-belt system and convert it to a serpentine belt system....Cost= $2500.00 CDN!!!!

There is how ever, a alternative.....MAYBE! Supposedly a Mid 90's full size Chevy pick up w/350, maybe 305, would have a serpentine system that can retro fitted on to our car's............Maybe its time time to start a NEW Thread???????

Chevy8588 and 87IROC-DAN61, Thanks for backing me up on the $85 temp sensor at that EBAY store. I almost felt like a lier. Thanks guyz.

Hello Chevy86 IROC-Z!!!

It always feels good to have done someone, some good, somewhere's!!!

I don't buy the line from the Ebay store, about the different stock prices due to them passing along a savings to the customer, have you ever heard of any business that does that, who's still in business???? Usually the seller will set his prices at whatever the market will bear, and/or in step with other retailers, selling the same stuff!!

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued

For my 3rd Gen. owners, here is the link to the $50 and $85 EGR Temp Sensor on EBAY. Note that on both items, there is no quantity on hand, giving me the idea that this fool has cache of our much needed item. I say that all of us here in this thread should ask this guy what his problem is and clearly state that we are members of Thirdgen.org . What do you say? Ya or Nay?

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued

somebody hit up an investor. shouldn't be a rare part. if they were smart they make it right, take for example-> hawks third gen parts. where else am i going to get a quality used t-5 or complete conversion kits in 3 business days max. Hawks should capitalized on this. I for one would agree. In Cali, having to buy emission parts is profitable for the suppiler. Sometimes only supplier. Take for example the catalytic converter. after jan 09' i had to buy this over priced magnaflow. but boy did i pass with sweet numbers. with after market injectors 10% extra flow. 19#. i thought id fail. but despite the laws with the new cats being more restrictive and MORE cleaner. best choice was magnaflow. compromises to live in Cali, its worth it. did i notice a difference? only the injectors. cat is junk like the rest. high flow is just a sales pitch. a pitch that i bought into, no regrets G

PLEASE let me be VERY clear on this!!! In NO way was I trying to suggest that you were lieing too us or that you are a lier.

My comment was out of fear that I may have ordered the wrong part!!!! I'm terrible with computers, even worse when ordering something on line.

If you check/read my posts, you can see how worried I was about getting the right part before and after i placed the order!!!!

REALLY Sorry for the Confusion, Chevy86 IROC-Z!!!

Hello 84pauloflondon!!

Don't forget to let me know when you get your part, I'm just curious to see how long it takes for you to get yours!!!

Have you been tracking your order via USPS.com?

P.S. Remember, autopartauctions.com says that you get what is pictured, so if you ordered the 85-89 Camaro/Firebird EGR Temp Sensor for $50.00 and that's what was in the picture, that's what you'll get. If it's a wrong order, call them like it says on their site also, they want to make you happy........okay, how about satisfied!!

WOW. I live in the true Southern Cali. I live just 10 minutes from Mexicali, Mexico. Well when I registered my 86 IROC in Oct. 09, I got away with a straight 3" pipe in place of my cat. I didnt require a smog test after 7 years of not even pay a Non Op registration fee. Cool huh! As for Cali air quality standards, crap. Cali is not a place for a 3rd Gen smoker. But hey, I got away with it.

Dear autopartauctions,

Hi. do you do price matching? If so can you price match item numbers 400095485711 and 400089322048 ? Thanks.

- andrew_jadira

Dear andrew_jadira,

HI,

Unfortunately we have these sensors in several aftermarket brands. All of the sensors in the brands were purchased from GM, but packaged in different aftermarket brands. We have different costs associated with each brand based on availability so we cannot price match. Sorry. We were purchasing these in vey limited quantities through our GM export parts/plant level production, but all production of this part has been discontinued and we can no longer source the part.

Hello Chevy86 IROC-Z!!

Did you notice how the story keeps on getting better!! Why don't they just tell you, "no, we can't price match, because we want to make $69.00 on a $16.00 part"!!!! If they told you that, it would be so much easier!!! I guess they don't want to look bad, it's all about image, or something like that!!!

I suggest that if you need one, buy it now for $50.00 and don't buy the $85.00 one, kind of like the old hot potato game!!!

Actually, when I did my original research on this part I found out that there was some crazy rebranding going on with it. The part was made by Delco and Borg Warner. Borg Warner stopped making it and starting rebranding GM's part supply.

The guys story actually does make sense. There is an email in this thread somewhere from Borg Warner to a third gen org member about this part where they stated they were actually rebranding the GM part.

See below, here is the email from Borg Warner talking about reboxing GM parts.

As a fellow Camaro owner(82 Indy Pace car) I feel your pain finding parts. Good hunting."

I was impressed it took less than 24 hours for a response. Makes sense that would just rebox and sell as aftermarket. Maybe if demand is there suppliers will make the parts. If not we will have to go to ported vacuum controlled EGR's like the 70's and tune the EGR function out of the chip. Stupid Emissions, I wish they would quite testing OBD I cars, it is more of a waste to even suport the equipment to do OBD I tests as there are less and less OBD I cars on the road.

Re: EGR temp sensor has been discontinued

My car still run good, no problems with EGR temp thingy.....I do NOT need to do emissions any more(NO MORE EMISSIONS FOR ME!

1) So IF my EGR temp switch DIES, What can I do??? (other then replacing EGR T/S)
2) Can I bypass the EGR system completely on a 87 TPI/350? (stock)
3) Is this the only alturnative-"ported vacuum controlled EGR's like the 70's and tune the EGR function out of the chip."

**proformance and drivability are tops....the law and emissions are not....Sorry!**
Keep in mind, I only put about 1000-2000 km per season on my GTA!
