Tune up?

Hi, i just bought an 88 bird with a 305, 5 speed. My question is. Is there an easy way to get at the spark plugs on the passenger side? I almost had a heart attack when i looked at the lack of room.. I was driving on the garden state parkway and the car would misfire in gear.. Feel like small gusts of wind hits me.spark plug wires had rust all on the contacts so a tune up is probably why

Re: Tune up?

I have removed everything not needed for engine operation and now it's easier to reach the spark plugs, but before that I used to do it while the car was lifted. You can do it that way but it's still really annoying. The hardest one is probably the 8th cylinder because the gap at the exhaust header is very narrow.
Not sure if that will be of any help...
Good luck!

Re: Tune up?

sound more like bad plug wires to me. They make a special spark plug socket for our cars. Made by Slp,but i use a very short 15 mm Spark plug socket and a box wrench on mine. That 8th cylinder is easier from the bottom.

Re: Tune up?

I usually go from the bottom on the right, it sucks but thats the price of owning excellence.

Re: Tune up?

Bite the bullet and do it from the bottom. It's so much easier!
