what fuel pump is best?

I have a stroked 305 (335) dart heads comp cam HSR intake with adjustable regulator and 24lb injectors. Gonna upgrade fuel pump and curious what others have run. I would like one to fit like factory but would change if one is highly recommend. Car is street car.

I bought the best one NAPA had 6 years ago and all is still good. AND I sometimes have to settle for ethanol gas.

Take a look at the #2 post here:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/tech...fuel-pump.html

It has several links you could read up on if you haven't found these already.

there seems to be some confusion as to what fuel pump to use. some go for one that pumps 10,000 LPM while others have a car that is stock. and their only concern is buying a quality stock replacement. be it a TPI car, or a TB set up. so the question is; whats the best stock replacement for a TPI car? or for a TB set up? most aren't building a 9 second drag car, theyre just trying to drive what they have on the street.SO lets keep it stock street driven cars for this question.

Rusty, are you saying "a stroked 305, Dart heads, Comp Cam, HSR intake, adjustable regulator and 24lb injectors" is stock, or are you saying a Walbro is too much for stock? My post was suggesting two things, to read up on a few other threads that will help him make a decision, and, without saying it, a Walbro pump.

no, im saying that there are two distinct groups here. those of us who are definitely NOT stock. and those of us who are .....just stock. now being as such ,there are different needs as far as fuel pumery is concerned. the racing crowd needs are different than the stock driver needs . SO there should be a dividing line somewhere. one side for the all out guys, and one side for the street stock guys. ( well,,, their needs ARE different). im not starting a ATILLA vs SOFA conflagriation. just pointing out that the two camps needs are completely different.

Re: what fuel pump is best?

I can't see a 335, with good cam and heads, exceeding much more than a stockish Walbro could deliver, many have put out good times with built up 350's and 383's with the factory pump, and never had fuel starvation.

I think the big pumps are best suited for those maybe boosting, or spraying.

Heck, GM's had mechanical pumps on BBC's putting out 450 HP and near 600 FT/Lb of torque back in the day...same pump they used on a 250 HP smogger BBC.

true, I lived it. im reffering to the TPI guys who ask "what fuel pump to use?" as well as the TBI guys that have a purely street car(mostly stock).racing needs are quite different than pure driver needs (as far as FI is concerned). lets not confuse the newbies with all that walbro stuff. although nothing against them. billy with a newly bought 80 something TPI car, who just wants to drive it, needs quite a different set up than bob who built a hair on fire drag car.

Re: what fuel pump is best?

Agree for sure Rusty...I guess I was replying to your post about seperating needs.

The Walbro I'm referring to is about 60/70 plus 8 for it's screen...made in USA...and is a good choice (IMO) over a AC Delco made in China, Mexico, etc...I wasn't referring to the 255?l Walbro pump.

In effect, agreeing with your earlier reply
