89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?

89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
just a few stupid questions to identify some wiring connectors...
I'm sure these are easy for someone who knows... this novice doesn't.
1. egr temp sensor, where's the other end connect to?
I don't see any connector for it. pic1
2. the oxygen sensor in driver side exhaust manifold, where does the other end go? I don't see any connector for it. pic5
3. on that air valve thing with two connectors, how do I know which plug
went to which side, they don't sit naturally to indicate
Green on right, like this? pic2
http://chevythunder.com/fuel%20injec....%20pg%20B.htm
4. the four wire connector in pic 3? what is it and where does it go?
I think all the emissions stuff was disconnected when I got it. I know the egr solenoid vent was plugged, the evap solenoid had a broken wire... maybe the egr temp sensor wire was just sitting there under the plenum.. can't remember taking it off and can't find the place to connect it.
I foolishly disassembled last year and didn't have camera handy
Thanks.

1. The other end of the egr temp sender wire should be laying towards the back of the intake manifold somewhere.
2. The other end of the o2 sensor wire should come from the main engine harness.
3. I believe the connectors for the air valve are keyed so that the can only go to one spot on the valve.

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
thanks. I'll look around some more...perhaps the wires fell behind when I had the heads off or maybe I tucked them behind...
do you know what is pic 3 and where it goes?
If I can't find O2 and egr wires, do you know what pins so I can run a wire?
They should be there though, it is supposed to be original engine, and even if someone was disconnecting them, I doubt they'd cut them off and leave the other part.

I'm pretty sure picture 3 is for the coolant temp sensor that goes into the front of the intake manifold.

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
Thanks. I'll look there tomorrow. That's it then, I should be able to reassemble and have it all hooked up correctly.
I waited too long...and tomorrow is supposed to be in the teens for outdoor temp...
Any comment on whether valve adjustment really has to be done when warm?
I don't see how one is supposed to get the passenger valve cover off after hooking up all the air stuff.

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
EGR switch connector is in the harness near the oil pressure sending unit. The O2 sensor connector is underneath, in the same wiring bundle as the connector for the temp gage sending unit located in the driver's side head.
You can adjust the valves cold. There are several write-ups on the procedure. Removing passenger side valve cover is tough in stock trim. Lots of stuff in the way that requires removal before cover comes off.

You can adjust them cold as was already said. I've always preferred to do them after they were pumped up with oil.

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
Thanks.
I was told that I'd probably have the valves too tight even at 1/4 turn due to the lack of oil pressure. As it is now, they are all set to a quarter turn past zero.
If I want to do them while the engine is hot, do I just leave off the air pump and hoses, maybe jam a rag in the hole or something, so I can warm it up and still get the valve cover on and off? or just leave it off with the air stuff hooked up, then take it off and install the cover? what is normally done?
Then just loosen and listen for the clacking, tighten to zero lash, then add a quarter turn - or is it a half turn from there? I've read both in various places.

If you already set them at 1/4 turn past zero you should be fine. Are they noisy?

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
I haven't fired it up yet.
What's this wire go to?
no clue
the head on driver side definitely has the temp sensor
the passenger head appears to have one too, but its tab was bent over
and I know I didn't take any wire off of it
do you think it is for that and just missing the connector?
still have stuff to put back on
and I'm feeling quite stupid about the serpentine belt
put it where I thought, and there's not enough belt to even get it around the alternator...checked a few diagrams, looks the same, power steering then looks like an S around main crank and water pump then go around air pump then compressor...with tensioner cranked
still not enough slack to get it onto alternator...
that is the belt that came off...I never removed it all the way from the car, so it is what was on there. ugh. I must be some kind of moron. I removed alternator brackets to see if I did something wrong, nope...removed AC and air pump bracket, looked fine, the bolts are going through the air pump...I don't see anything for adjustment other than the spring tensioner...

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
this is the last wire to connect or ignore
I reposted the same photo by mistake
14101083 heads - both had a temp sensor
could this wire be for that?

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
That connector for the passenger side doesn't look familiar, but if it's a single pin lead coming through the same harness as the starter connectors it's likely the connector for the knock sensor (centre bottom of the block) or the secondary fan switch (pass side head inbetween cyl #6 and #8).

Re: 89 gta: where does egr temp sensor wire go? oxy sensor wire?
Thanks. Very interesting. It is a single pin and is with the bundle for the starter.
The dual fans wiring was customized by a local garage - after it overheated.
I'll have to check that wiring closely.
Ah, so that's a switch on that passenger head is for the second fan to come on...
It wasn't hooked up when I disassembled. The head has a typical flat rectangle blade connector which is bent over. I was wondering what that was for.
I guess I'll just strip that wire, extend it and used a crimp on connector.
I'll take a couple photos from underneath (if the camera batteries last).
Or maybe I should get a new switch, as it is probably no good.
I was underneath today to put on the back 2 plug wires and saw what I think was the knock sensor with wiring attached, so it must be the secondary fan switch.
I didn't know it had one.

secondary fan switch
So I should remove the thing in there with a bent blade connector that could be a malfunctioning temp switch...
and put in one of these
as it appears to match the connector that's sitting there disconnected
no matter what the customized fan wiring is, this only adds a ground to the relay when the ECM says it is hot enough...

Here is a link showing different temperature switches.
