Fast multi port retro kit
At my wits end with my 85 iroc. It's a 350 swap with 87ecm and MAF. It's just all over the place, runs great cold when it's 70 ish out. Warmed up or hot outside it surges and falls all over itself and I can't find the end of the repair bill. And the 110+ weather is on its way. I think the problem is the MAF and IAT but that's $375ish and still not sure if I should have an open or closed probe IAT Or if it matters. Only things I have done is take computer control away for the fans and went to a becool switch for a 195 therm and changed over to a 3 wire O2 and added a ventage air gen IV a/c system.
Was thinking of dumping the whole computer and starting fresh. Anyone used the fast retro kit? Good idea? Bad idea? Only thing I'm concerned with is emissions and loosing the egr. However the emissions laws here are pure output not equipment so if my magnaflow cat can make up for it I'm game.

Re: Fast multi port retro kit
I'm basically looking for advice. I have some money coming back from taxes and I'm tired of chasing my tail with this car. I want to fill this car with gas, change the oil regularly and make sure the headders haven't worked loose... That's it!
I have no wish to waste money, but I want this car to run like I remember it running. Tap the key to get it to start not screw with the throttle for 30 seconds and pray a lot.
So I have possibilities, 89 MAF system with cold start delete? 91-92 map (by happy accident I have the sensor)? Or aftermarket... FAST being the most economical?

Hook up an OBD1 cable and laptop to see what is happening and what errors are being thrown.

Have neither, I'll have to look into it. Basically obd1 live data yes?

you may want to look into EBL control... pretty easy to retrofit, eliminates the MAF and gives you better datalogging, etc... lots of support on this board as well

I agree 100% with the EBL suggestion. Have it for both my Trans Am and my K5 Jimmy that I just swapped TPI on to. In the truck it is an all stock 350 with stock intake/injectors and a modified stock harness for stand alone use and Emissions delete then modified for the EBL delete of the MAF to a MAP system. Flashed in the supplied 350/Auto tune that came with my EBL Flash software (many others to choose from as well) and it started first try. Ran perfect even without going into closed loop because I haven't installed an O2 sensor. Need to weld a sensor bung in my exhaust first. Put 100 miles on it last weekend running perfect in open loop. No changes to the tune were made except for the basic removal of Emission functions.
It is a easy swap from a MAF car to the EBL Flash. Rbob is great to deal with and will help with any questions along the way. Along with the vast amount of info available in the Tuning with EBL thread in the DIY Prom board. Whether your plans are just keeping your motor stock or modifying in the future you will see benefits of doing the swap.
