tpi performance question

if this is in the wrong place, please move it for me

ok, i have an 87 gta with a tpi 350 and 700r4 ... i dont have any clue what has been done to her over her life, other than the cat has been taken off and everything from there back was replaced ... here is my question, would a stock tpi 5.7 brake the rear loose when hitting second gear? i have never had a stock 350 before, but i wouldnt think that would happen from a stock motor and trans ... btw, the rpo code sticker is gone so i dont know the gears yet

A stock, non worn out, unmolested L98 car has enough power to chirp tires when switching into second gear. A 28 year old "stock" but clearly not unmolested L98?... probably not.

Re: tpi performance question

For 1987 all of the L98 f-bodies came with 3.27 gears in the 9bolt borg warner rear.

I agree with what the other poster said, a good running L98 that is not worn out does have enough power to chirp the tires going in to second gear even with the stock soft shift set up from the factory. When I got my car over 10 years ago it had 153,000 miles on it and it would chirp the tires going in to second at full throttle if the conditions were right.

Re: tpi performance question

It possibly may have a shift kit in it like mine. I have a 89 gta shifting from 1st to 2nd it chirps and goes sideways lol.
