Does an 86 IROC have a one piece crank seal?

I'm looking at a donor car for an 87 GTA T5 swap. Does the 86 have a one piece rear main seal? I don't want it If the flywheel won't fit the 87 5.7 crank.

I think the crank and block changed in 87.

FWIW, Rock Auto's catalog shows a 1-piece rear main for '86.

If that's the case, will the T5 from the 86 still mate with the 87 providing I source A proper flywheel?

Yes thats all you will need, however the 86 should also be a 1-piece rear main.

That would be a bonus then. I was hoping to just be able to resurface the flywheel

One other thing, if the engine came from an automatic car you will need to press a pilot bearing into the crankshaft after polishing up the area machined for it with emery cloth

The engine is my 5.7 mated to a 700R4 right now. You're saying I have to press a bearing into the back of my engine?

Yea the bearing presses into the crankshaft at the flange where the crankshaft bolts.

Re: Does an 86 IROC have a one piece crank seal?

pilot bearing/bushing basically never installed in the crank of an engine for an automatic trans. not a big deal to install, I use a socket and hammer although I'm sure there's some kind of special tool out there somewhere.

This can be done with the engine in the car I assume.

yep, about like installing a freeze plug. 2 or 3 lb hammer is good.
