TPI 305 Trans Am dies when shifting to reverse or drive
Hello!
I have a 1986 Trans Am, 305 Tune Port, automatic 700r4 transmission.
My problem doesn't occur every time, but there is times when I shift the car into reverse or drive, it stalls out.
However I can usually keep my foot on the brake and gas, and right when I shift, I give it a gas and it sometimes saves it and runs normal, however when the car is started it doesn't have the best idle but it's not bad either, usually a high rpm above 500 or something but when you give it gas and let it rev down, then it drops to almost dying then goes back up.
I would get a video up but I currently have the engine tore down to the heads, as I have to do gaskets on it, maybe heads or even a bad block, I don't know yet. Soon to found out though
Also, has anyone had the problem with the starter not starting all the time? Like sometimes I go out to start it and it starts, other times I have to pop the hood, grab the black cable running to the bottom of the starter, thick one, and pull on it until it gets good connection again and it works when I do that.
Think I got all the information needed but if not, let me know and I will provide it.
Also before I started this tear down my car threw codes -
14 - Coolant Sensor, High temperature fault.
34 - MAP Sensor voltage high - pressure high/vacuum low or MAF signal high/flow low.
Yes I used the paper clip trick, to A and B and it wasn't hard to understand

Thanks!

Change that coolant temp sensor first. Fairly cheap and it can mess an engine up. Hard or no start, rough idle, bogging down heavily when shifting from park to any gear. Went through this with mine. Also check your cap and rotor and make sure you are getting strong spark
