87 TPI wiring harness and ECU
Hello. I'm new to the forum world. I have an 88 IROC with a 305 TBI. I'm purchasing an 87 350 TPI. It doesn't have wiring harness or ECM with it. Wondering if anyone can help me locate these. Would be much appreciated. Also I'm from Ontario Canada.

In your search make sure you get an '88 harness since your car is an '88.
An '87 doesn't fit nor does an '89 each year they made changes.

Do you have any places you've dealt with in the past that I can get harness and ECM? That you can direct me to.

So my TBI harness that's in my car now won't work on TPI engine?

Re: 87 TPI wiring harness and ECU
- engine is same between 87 and 88 (there may be minor differences in cam specs, etc., but nothing worth picking nits at this point).
- sensors on the engine from 87-88 are the same... same location, same connector style.
- The body wiring is different between 87-88 and 88-89. It would be more work and a bigger hassle to repin the 87 or 89 harness to match the 88 body.

So an '88 harness for TPI is what I need? Or what's in my car now will work on the '87 engine?

Exactly.
Nope. If they made TBI in 87, that would drop in and use the existing wiring. TBI (one or two injectors) harness has significant wiring and ECM differences than TPI.

Ok. Do u think you could offer any assistance finding that harness? I've been in touch with wrecking yards and have had no success. Also my ECM from TBI won't work, or can it be reprogrammed to work on TPI.

Not many third gens in the salvage yards here in Denver. Here are some other sources.. I've bought parts from Hawks and TPIParts, and have had good experience with them.
EBay

Any TPI harness can be adapted to work regardless of year, and for that matter If it was me i would just modify your existing TBI harness to do it. It can be done fairly easily if you have the wiring skills, All the information exists on these forums. If you dont want to dig into that Since you dont have a computer, I would forget about the 85-89 MAF stuff and just get the 90-92 Speed density setup you can purchase a brand new TPI harness for that computer from Painless and a couple of other sources (fairly pricey) Or there are usally at least a couple of them for sale on ebay.
