Re: Please Please help...
Your starter enable relay is probably bad as stated earlier, needs to be replaced. Yes, the purple wire is shorted to ground somewhere. Could be the neutral safety switch is bad and shorted to ground. If you put the gear selector into drive, this will dis-connect the neutral safety switch and isolate the starter enable relay. Now test the purple wire to the same spot as before ( body ground on the right fender). If you still see 0.50 ohms (short) then the purple wire is probably the problem and now you just need to determine where the wire is ba d. If you now get an infinite ohm reading, then the wire from the starter enable to the neutral safety switch is probably the problem and you will need to check to see where it is bad. Do this check and get back with your results and we can go from there. GL!

Re: Please Please help...
I will be around early tomorrow but not in the evening, hopefully someone else can help if I am not available or I will check later. In the mean time, here is a circuit drawing of a 91 starter circuit.

OK I'm truly lost now I checked the purple wire today it read 0.00 ohms...put the car in drive it read 0.00 ohms. ...also checked the tan/white wire it read 0.00 ohms..I have no idea what's going on I tested it the same way yesterday and I swear the purple wire read 0.50 ohms...so what's going on here....

0.050 ohms and 0.00 ohms are basically the same, you have a short circuit. The neutral safety switch should have opened up and dis-connected the purple wire from the tan/white wire when you put the car in drive. You are testing the wires to ground, right? I can't see both wires being shorted to ground unless your neutral safety switch malfunctioned and is always closed, even in drive. Dis-connect the wires (purple and tan/white) at the neutral safety switch and test them to ground and see what you get.

Re: Please Please help...
The purple wire is shorted to ground. The tan/white wire is fine. Neutral safety switch seems to not open up when shifted into gear, which it should do to prevent starting the car in gear. Check the purple wire from the starter solenoid back into the harness, it is possible you either pinched it when tightening down the passenger side valve cover or chaffed it and it is resting on metal somewhere. You're getting close to resolving this problem. By check, I mean to visually inspect the wire for problems.

Re: Please Please help...
OK tried tracing purple wire not having any luck finding it broken or hitting something can I run a new wire from the starter to the neutral safety switch basically bi passing the purple wire totally? It should start then no?

Re: Please Please help...
Yes you can do that. I believe that wire passes through one of the connectors on the firewall, not sure which one. Once you replace that wire, you still may not be able to start the car. Your starter relay is probably bad (really don't know yet). You won't need to replace the neutral safety switch to get the car started, but if it allows the car to start in any gear, you should replace it when you get a chance. After you get your new wire installed and hooked to the switch, before connecting it to the solenoid, check to see that the solenoid is not shorted. From the terminal on the solenoid to ground you should see a value of a few ohms (not 0.00). If everything checks out ok, put the new wire on the solenoid, replace your battery and check for voltage at the starter relay with key in start position. If you have voltage there, plug in your starter relay. At this point, you should be able to start your engine. GL!

Re: Please Please help...
OK just looked at the schematics and this purple wire branches off at firewall to the crank fuse if I bi pass the purple wire then I don't have power going to the crank fuse right ?so I would have to find the purple wire in the car before it goes to the crank fuse and jump it there? Or just running a,wire from the solenoid to the neutral safety switch will it power the crank fuse...boy I thought it would be an easy solution just jumping it to see if it would work but I'm thinking its not because no power will get to the crank fuse...

Power comes from the crank fuse. Check the fuse to see if it is ok. Should read 0.00 ohms through the fuse. Pull the fuse out to test it. While the fuse is out test the purple wire at the fuse to see if that is the shorted end of the wire. If so, just replace the wire from the fuse to the solenoid.

Re: Please Please help...
The wiring diagram I posted doesn't show the crank fuse. Does the other end of the fuse go back to the neutral safety switch? If so, it is just an in-line fuse used to protect the wiring inside the car if a short should occurs. By pulling the fuse, you are just splitting the purple wire in half so you should be able to determine which end is shorted.

I want to thank Funkdubie [Mark] and Bigal55 for all there help I would never have figured it out !!!! I owe you guys!! thanks again so much.....
