305 tpi gas on oil pan

i purchased an 86 z28 with a 305 tpi and it kept flooding with gas and vapor locking and I was told by a shop it needed a motor. So I bought a motor from a buddy and I heard and saw it run before we pulled it out but it was carbed. He dropped it in mine and we put on my tpi set up and it turned over a few times but didn't start. Then we tried again and it would barely turn over. I drained the oil and it was full of gas!! Anybody have any ideas on to what would cause this to happen on both engines? It has to have something to do with the tpi set up or fuel pump. (Fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, etc) any help would be greatly appreciated I just want to drive this thing!!!!!

Stuck injectors?
I lost a Ls1 engine due to hydro locking. I just hit the starter and the piston shattered because fluids really don't compress like air.

How do I test the injectors to see if they're stuck open? I don't want to ruin this engine

pull them out of the intake , but leave them on the fuel rail. then go cycle the key a few times while you watch for drips.

best way I test them is to take a 5 or 6 cc syringe the in injector will fit in where the plunger goes and then spray carb cleaner into and then use a 9volt batter to trigger it. cleans and tests. You attach the little straw that comes with carb cleaner into the syringe where the needle would go. be careful not to over pressurize the syringe or it might burst and then u get carb cleaner in your eye... does not feel good...

Replaced all the injectors but it still seems to be leaking gas. Not as much but there is still enough leaking down to keep the engine from turning over after a few times trying to start it. I did get it to run for a minute though then cut it off and tried to start it and cracked the starter

Re: 305 tpi gas on oil pan

I just unhooked the hose from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake and bumped it over a few times and after 3 times it filled the water bottle all the way up. Would this be a sign of a bad fuel pressure regulator or something else?

Next test would be to unhook the ev1 connections from all the injectors and hook up a noid light to on each side and turn over the motor. If the have grounded out or shorted they might just be open all the time. The light can be rented for free an most parts stores and harbor freight has them for $20. With all the connections unhooked no fuel should come out, if the noid light flashes it's good if it stays on than something is wrong.

Also to test the regultor put a fuel pressure gauge on and you can jumper a 12+ to the red prime wire coming out of the fuel pump relay and that will turn your pump on. You can also test for leaky injectors the same way but with the rail pope off and injectors clipped in.

If that was the vacuum hose on the regulator that you disconnected your regulator has a bad diaphragm. Replace the diaphragm or get a new regulator.
