Car hard to start
Recently my 89 GTA is having trouble starting with relative ease. It takes a few seconds of cranking and even after it starts there's a puff of smoke and I can smell gas. What could be my problem? Not enough gas? Clogged fuel filter by chance? I run 93 octane all the time and occasionally put lucas fuel injector treatment in every now and then when I run the tank almost empty.

Re: Car hard to start
Could be failed fuel pump relay. When it goes bad, there is an oil pressure switch that is hooked up in parallel to the relay. The switch will close when oil pressure is present, then provides power to the pump. Takes a few seconds of cranking to build enough oil pressure to close the switch. Does the fuel pump run for 2 seconds with the key turned to run? If it does then the relay should be ok.
