MAF Delete ?

MAF Delete ?
I see many TPI setups TPI's with K&N Conical filters right on the throttle body. Is their a Mod I am not aware of that allows you to delete the MAF sensor ?
I have an 87 IROC , and I am trying to resurrect it. Among the parts I am missing is a MAF sensor, and if their is a way to bypass it without effecting functionality, i'd definitely love to put that $100+ dollars into something else.
RobertFrank car for example (thanks)

Some small wiring changes, add a MAP sensor, delete the MAF as well as burn off relays, and run $12P Australian code in your 165 ECM.

And think hard as to whether you really want to feed your engine hot air right off the radiator. There is a reason why engineers spent time and effort designing the factory air intake to draw cold air from in front of the radiator. The best of both worlds is a MAP(speed density) system with a factory air intake modified to increase airflow. There is a good description of the process on this forum if you search for "high flow air filter lid". I did the mod on mine and it was a job but now it can support my current motor and the bigger motor I have planned. Once the high flow lid mod is done, think about ram air. It's a fairly easy mod on the IROC.
