Re: harness question

if you have a complete harness ECM and all , its mostly plug and play. and you use the 89 wiring where needed

While you can make the 2 harness work together because the actual C100 plugs are physically the same and will plug into each other,...... an 82 Dash & 89 Engine/ECM harness is really not close to "plug and play". The 82 and 89 C100 connectors have full-time 'power distribution' wiring in different locations ('G4' & 'G5') so a 82 and 89 harness are NOT directly compatible. While that's just 1 wire,... that's just the start.

Another tid-bit that comes to mind is the wiper wiring..... The 82-83 Wiper systems were different than ALL other Thirdgens and not compatible with anything after 83. Then; if you look at the actual wiper wiring, it is located in the ENGINE side of C100 for 82,... but the Headlight side of C100 for 89.

Expect to need to modify the fuse-box too; I'm sure you'll need to add/ move a few circuits for the Injectors, electric fan, electric fuel pump, or any other options upgrades you plan to use from the factory (or aftermarket) set-up.

I'm not sure about the C207 connectors,..... I'll post the info below for you to compare from year-to-year.

Here's the 82 and 89 c100 diagrams:

82

89

Here is the C207 info for 1982 and 1989: (can't promise every wire is completely accurate - but they should be very close ! )

1982 C207

A Brn ALDL / ECM (AIR control)

1988 C207 (should be 89 too)

N Org/Blk ECM / P/N switch
P
R Ppl/Wht Crank Fuse / Cold Start-ECM

82 Fuse-box

88 Fuse-Box ( Firebird; should be similar to 89)

This is most of the info you would need to modify your 82 dash and 89 Engine/ECM wiring to get them working together properly. you should buy a shop manual for each year harness so you have all the detailed wiring for EVERYTHING before starting this project.

Re: harness question

That's a good thing, VERY Plug & Play !!!

Myself; I would prefer to unbolt the dash housing and swap dash harnesses rather than re-pinning. So much less time spent reading thru schematics and re-wiring !

You should also look into an 89 ( or at least an 86+) Cluster. The 82 gauges in a stock cluster will work fine, but the 82-85 clusters are not a "perfect match" for the 86+ wiring. If you use the 82 cluster with the 89 dash harness the BRAKE warning light and 1 cluster back-light will not work properly. ( 89 has "security" indicator too, but that might be the same PIN/circuit as the early cluster CHOKE light,........... I just can't remember right now ! )

Re: harness question

NO problem,..... just wanted to give you a head-up about some of the things that you might run into while working on this project. The more you know up-front, the less 'surprises' you'll have to deal with 'on the fly' !
