Egr solenoid
it seems you can't find any of these anywhere for a 5.7L. My buddy has a solenoid from a 94 Cadillac put in it did I keep getting a code 32. I don't want to bypass it. Any other suggestions?I would like to find a compatible solenoid that would work if possible

Re: Egr solenoid
Isn't it possible, that the EGR solenoid is kind of like a check valve and the flow only goes one way? Maybe the vacuum lines are switched and that's why the EGR light is coming on.

Re: Egr solenoid
To answer your question....
The EGR Solenoid opens and closes many times on command. Short and long pulses, depending on what the computer calls for. Its either OPEN or CLOSED.
As for the plumbing, or tubing....the line from the EGR goes to the black plastic nipple.
The line from PORT (on the plenum) goes to the metal port on the solenoid. It still should not matter which.........confusing? Not really.

Re: Egr solenoid
Well I changed the vacuum lines around, and it was no change to the code 32. I disconnected the battery to get rid of any remaining codes. The next morning, the engine light came on once again. Now here is the weird part, the light only comes on in the morning when the engine is cold. The light will remain on as I am driving, but once I turn the engine off, the light will not come on the next time I crank the car up after the engine has warmed up. It also has a new EGR temp sensor in it as well.

Re: Egr solenoid
EGR holds a good vacuum and the solenoid is new. It tested good also. I have a feeling that temperature related. Has a new egr temperature sensor in it as well.

Yep...all new vac lines on every thing. Didn't wanna take no chances. I'm thinking CTS maybe since it's a cold start problem

Re: Egr solenoid
CTS tested fine. since the plug on this had to be changed in order to use this solenoid, is it possible that this solenoid has a different polarity? Perhaps the wires need changing around on the plug as it may be a signal issue rather than temp.

Re: Egr solenoid
The solenoid is normally open. The ECM grounds it during startup and cold temps, blocking vacuum to the EGR valve.

Re: Egr solenoid
That's why I was wondering about the 2 wires going to the solenoid. the two wires might have to be switched around.the ECM might be sending a signal, but it's going on the wrong wire to the solenoid.
