1987 iroc 5.7 TPI no spark
Hello to all long time reader 1st time poster
I have a 1987 iroc with 5.7 l98 all arizona speed and marine TPI setup i put on back in the early 90s have had car since 1991 large tube runners ported plenum ported heads ZZ3 cam and so on . . i haven't driven car much over the last 10 years or so i drag race a motorcycle and it takes all my time so car sits in garage . Over the last few years car has been getting harder and harder to start. i crank and crank and it will eventually start running on about 4 or 5 cylinders then starts hitting on all of them after about a minute it also has the cold start injector . About 2 weeks ago i tried starting it and it started up after cranking it for a long time then just slowly came to life the longer it ran and ran fine after that . But i let it sit overnight and tried to start it the next day wouldnt start . Went to start it over the weekend now nothing i dont even hear the fuel pump prime when i turn the key on but i checked it and it has fuel pressure i guess after i crank it a little bit the pump must come on .
I checked for spark and there was none so i disconnected the MSD ignition and coil and put the stock coil back on still no spark so then replaced the module in the distributor and still no spark . Then i went to check for codes i am not getting anything the check engine light does not even come on when i turn on the key .The bulb is good all fuses are good all the gauges come on but no check engine light . I am a little stumped to say the least it also has new MAF sensor i put on about 6 months ago . could my ECM have taken a crap ????? I also checked the line fuse coming from the battery that is good. Also installed new 24lb injectors about 3 years ago ran real good after that
I would greatly appreciate any info on where to start checking for this issue
Thanks in advance
Steve

No where do you mention that you checked the battery's state of charge. That's the first thing I would check.
You ride bikes so maybe you know this already, but a battery maintainer is a good investment.
You do pour in fuel stabilizer into the gas tank and let the engine run to distribute it, yes?

Thanks for the reply yes the battery is on a battery tender and is in a full state of charge as for the fuel i mix a gallon or two of sunoco 110 octane or go up the street to local small airport and get 104 octane AV fuel which is a great stabilizer .

I have a 89 iroc with 5.7 all stock with 71,000 miles .I'm having the same problem! No spark. I have replaced ecm,new prom chip, esc, complete dist, new coil, plug wires, relays, alt., starter and battery. When cranking engine it gets a very weak spark. Let me know if you figure out your problem. Thanks Heath
