throttle body question

Hey Im new to the site and new to the 5.0 tpi on my 86 Z28. Im kinda in a jam ATM and could use some advice, my throttle body has gone to swiss cheese and is leaking air which in turn is making my car stall and idle rough cause I'm getting too much air in. If I replace it with a 52mm throttle body(cause it can be found easier than the stock 48mm) will it work and not thrash my MAF or my engine?

Re: throttle body question

52mm is a direct bolt on replacement.

Re: throttle body question

Ok thanks!! I was curious cause it was slightly bigger and ATM it's my daily driver. It's my 2nd 86 Z28 but when I had my first I yanked out the TPI 305 and put in a carbureted 350 crate engine.

Re: throttle body question

the engine is only going to suck in as much air as it can, going to a larger throttle body wont throw anything off.

Be sure the throttle cable linkage is compatible.

Re: throttle body question

Check the throttle shaft for linkage compatibility.

Re: throttle body question

I had my stock one rebuilt from these guys awhile back. They re-bush the linkage holes which tend to wear out and suck air. I can't remember what they charge, but it was cheaper than the aftermarket throttle bodies that people tend to have issues with. They used to advertise the rebuild service on ebay. I don't think they do anymore, but it may be worth a phone call to see if they still do it.
