what is the difference? I need a tranny and i came across a s10 tranny. Is it inferior to the IROCs? or are they the same thing?

A S10 700R4 from a 4.3L V6 would bolt up but I sure wouldn't trust it.
Plus you would want the F-body one that has the torque arm mount and V8 spec internals.
Although anything is possible, I wouldn't run it.

You would most likely toast it. From what I understand about 700R4's the V6-ers had one less clutch in each clutch pack (except O.D. which only has 2 to begin with).

As a core trans a 4.3 V6 700R4 would work. You'd need to swap on your tailshaft housing, which will have the TA mount and correct speedo hookup. If it's a 4X4 trans it won't work becasue the output shaft is a different length (too short). The V6 trans is lighter duty though, as mentioned, but if you're doing a full rebuild you can bring it up to V8 spec easily. If you're looking to just slam a good trans in it then get a V8 F-body trans in good shape, preferably '87-up.
Point or clarification, the 3/4 clutch pack typically has about 5 clutches. The overrun clutch pack only uses 2. Typically the 3/4 pack is upgraded to between 7 and 9 clutches in a performance rebuild.
