vss tranny to mech speedo...opposite of what most people do
I have v6 gauges for my 89 RS with a 2.8. I'm going to change the resistor in the tach cluster to make it compatible for an lt1. The other gremlin I'm chasing is the speedo is mechanically driven, but the transmission (a '95 46le automatic) is vss driven. How can I make this setup work? If this is in the wrong forum moderators please move it.

Search around on the net for the abott cable x its a box that will spin your speedometer using an electronic signal.

Thanks a lot z28r!cer I found it in a matter of seconds thanks to google. I am going to call them today and see how much it'll cost.
As far as getting a different gauge cluster, it just seems like too much work from what I've researched because you have to change out the dash or mod the dash to get it to fit, plus I like the older gauges better.

The changeover can be done, but it would be a lot easier to just buy the box, iirc its like $250 or 300

Now as for what controller with which you are operating your 4L60-E, I don't know what VSS signal you're giving it...

However the big flaw in your plan, I want to see where you are now going to get him a 64,000 pulse per mile input for his LT1 computer.

I read 2.8, didn't get to the LT1 part.
There are no "per mile" VSS when they are reluctor ring. It's "per driveline revolution." It's best not to discuss VSS in those terms.
There are tailhousings that allow mechanical cable + VSS reluctor. Jagsthatrun is one source of info / parts. That's probably what I'd do, although I may change my car to elec. speedo.

If the reluctor wont come off you could have a trans shop swap the output shaft and gears with the ones from the 2.8s trans. While there changing shafts they could check the internals of the trans for wear and save you from having to remove the trans later.
