REAREND GURUS PLEASE READ INSIDE!!!!

my friend is in the process of building a worked 355 motor, pushing 420hp at the crank, he using a th350 tranny w/a street fighter converter, my question is this, which rearend is the best choice for him, he has 2 as of now, choice #1 7 1/2 rearend 1- bolt 3:73 gear and posi unit or a 9 bolt from a trans am with a limited slip differential and a 3:73 gear from SLP, he has both and we need to know which is the best rearend to use...

The 9 bolt is stronger than the 10 bolt by far! It has 4 pinion (spider) gears and 2 side gears vs 2 & 2 in the 10 bolt. The 9 bolt has axle retaining flanges vs C clips. The 9 bolt can be serviced for longer life, the 10 bolt can't.

I now have parts available for 9 bolts (new carriers and gear sets, - other stuff is coming soon). They are not as cheap as 10 bolt stuff, but they are a lot cheaper (and lighter) than a 9 inch (or 12 bolt) and much stronger than a 7.5 (or 7.625) 10 bolt. I have been running a 9 bolt behind my big block (500hp 520lbft) for almost 3 years now with 1.72-1.75 60 ft times. So have other people. I can get ratios from 3.2x to 4.1x.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 carriers in stock for 9 bolts )

Vortech305,
Dude, I don't want to start a war or nothing, but what the hell does a rear end have to do with "Body & Interior"?
