700R4 Valve Body Torque

Does anyone know the torque specs for the 700R4 Valve body?

8 foot pounds or 96 inch pounds.

I ussually use 80 in/lbs on iron VB's and 50 in/lbs on aluminum.

Ahh dangit -- I knew it was smaller...I torqued mine to 10lbs as thats as low as my wrench would go. Is this going to be a big prob?

Are you sure you don't mean 10 ft/lbs? I have never seen any torque wrench except for a beam type that could go that low. If it was 10 ft/lbs (120 in/lbs) on a 700, I wouldn't worry about it at all. If it IS 10 in/lbs, yea, go back and retighten them... soon!

The GM engineers like 8 foot pounds on the iron valve bodies cept for the 3 bolts around the TV area at the edge.

In the TV area they like 6 foot pounds.

I am only quoting the guys at the Mesa Proving grounds from the late 1980's

I believe that they said that. They were desperate to figure out why the valve would stick and burn the tranny up.
