T-5 Swap help

Where about do I cut the hole in the transmission tunnel for the Shifter? I will use the lower boot as a template but I don't know where to even begin cutting.

I am going to start putting the pilot bearing, flywheel, clutch pressure plate, etc in tomorrow. Anyone have any tips or suggestions as to what I should look out for and stuff of that nature?

Re: T-5 Swap help

When I cut the hole for my T56, I just put the trans in the car and traced the outline of the shifter pad onto the trans tunnel on the underside of the car and cut it from underneath. Just make sure you hit the area with some brake clean first as there is normally a good amount of gunk here. I wound up having to trim off a tiny bit extra but it worked pretty good.

Re: T-5 Swap help

I had my carpet out before starting the install of my T56 but didn't feel like installing the trans and pulling it out again. So what I did was grabbed a 4" hole saw, measured the length of the trans and bell housing back to the shifter, then measured from the engine back on the underside of the tunnel, marked, then went up top and used the hole saw.

Using a tape measure. Measure back 22 ½? from the face of the bell housing and mark the floor pan with a marker. That will be your shifter center point. From that point measure 3? front to rear for a total of 6? and 2 ½? left to right for a total of 5?. To mark the four corners of the hole use a drill with a 1/8? bit and drill up through the floor pan. Back inside the car you can use a cutting tool to cut the floor pan. We lined the area with wet towels to protect the carpet.
