Converter locking up too soon??

I have a 92 that I have been putting together for the last 5 years. It has been converted to a 355 carb set up, 5 years ago I had a local trans shop rebuild my 700r4, they installed a wiring kit for the tcc and told me not to plug the factor connector in and gave me a connector that went to a vacuum switch. They said to run that to manifold vacuum and the converter will operate normally. Long story short it left the garage for the first time yesterday and it feels like the converter is locking in 2nd gear and every gear after. I didn't step into it to hard since it was the first trip out, the trans didn't feel like it was slipping but felt like it was bogged down unless I shifted it manuelly. Sorry about my lack of knowledge I don't know much about transmissions, and I can't remember what was installed in this one.

Re: Converter locking up too soon??

I never had any luck with mine operating automatically with a vacuum switch either. It just didn't seem to lock and unlock when I wanted it to, causing it to bog sometimes. I just lock mine manually with a toggle, locking it when I reach 50+ speeds and when I dont anticipate stopping soon - usually only on the highway. If I'm 'in-town' but on a long 4lane like a 45mph parkway with little or no redlights, I'll lock it also, but only when I don't anticipate stopping soon. I've been running mine for 4 years like this with no issues at all.
