t5 leak?

ok so i have a leak, this leak looks to be inside the bellhousing? is there a seal or plug that could be possibly leaking inside the bellhousing? i took of the plastic cover for the bellhousing and at first i thought it was a rear main but its dripping right at the bottom of the bellhousing. rear main is dry

Re: t5 leak?

No plug.

Most likely, it's your case being stretched; the usual cause of terminal T-5 death.

Here's pics of both designs of cases.

The countergear bearing is the smaller round thing in the front of each case, partially obscured by the clutch gear bearing retainer. When the case stretches, as a result of excesive torque being applied to it, the hole elongates, and the bearing no longer fits tightly. The leak is the symptom of this.

Once that has happened, the transmission is garbage. The gears are no longer held in the correct orientation to each other and won't last long. In fact, if your trans whines more than it used to in all gears except 4th, that's why.

Note in the pic, the dark stain below that bearing in the upper pic. That's a 1st design one. The stain is old gear lube. That one is trash. Just one of ..... many, too many I'd say .... in my retired no-longer-rebuildable core heap.

Time to start looking for a T-56.
