Weight of Dana 44 axle

Does anyone happen to know the weight of the D44 axle?

Relative weight compared to 7.5" 10 bolt and 9 bolt would be fine as well.

Thanks,

John

T2R limited slip w/o ring gear - 24 lbs
cast AL cover - 5lbs
Axle 1 - 17.3 lbs
Axle 2 - 17.0 lbs
Ring Gear - 7.1 lbs
Pinion - 5.6 lbs
Spool - 9.2 lbs

9 Bolt
Housing w/ lca relo brackets - 76 lbs
OEM Limited slip w/o ring gear - 14.4 lbs
Axle 1 - 17.2 lbs
Axle 2 - 16.3 lbs
Ring Gear - 6.3 lbs

Re: Weight of Dana 44 axle

Finally have some numbers.

Bare Dana 44 housing with LCA relocation brackets - 83lbs

Torsen T2R limited slip, no ring gear- 24lbs

Cast aluminum cover - 5lbs

I will weigh my 9 bolt stuff shortly for comparison. But so far the Dana seems lighter than I was expecting.

Re: Weight of Dana 44 axle

Its probably too heavy for what you want...you should just sell it to me

But seriously from all ive been reading i would be very surprised if there was more than a 10-20 pound difference between the D44 and the 9 bolt.

That will be awesome, I hope you are right. I have my old 9 bolt in a similar state of apart and will weigh the components tonight.

Re: Weight of Dana 44 axle

Added to original post. Left my sheet at home, but these are from memory, will check for accuracy later.

Dana 44
Axle 1 - 17.3 lbs
Axle 2 - 17.0 lbs
Ring Gear - 7.1 lbs
Pinion - 5.6 lbs
Spool - 9.2 lbs

9 bolt
Housing w/ lca relo brackets - 76 lbs
Limited slip (no ring gear) - 14.4 lbs
Axle 1 - 17.2 lbs
Axle 2 - 16.3 lbs
Ring Gear - 6.3 lbs
Pinion - 5.0 lbs

So I'm looking at less than a 20lb difference between the D44 and 9 bolt. Good stuff.

Re: Weight of Dana 44 axle

Both are still lighter than my Moser 9"...by how much I don't know. I'm really suprised there's less than a 20 lb difference between a 9 bolt and a Dana though. But that Dana will take a lot more abuse and ask for more.

Did you happen to score a rare thirdgen one, or are you building one yourself?

Yes, I am surprised as well. It is a thirdgen D44 that I am building. I think the only thing I am reusing is the case.
