T56 swap w/ Alston SFC
My car currently has Alston subframe connectors welded in. I'm looking to swap in a T56. Need to buy a trans crossmember and trying to decide which one. (Don't know what I'm doing for exhaust yet, but it will have a cat, so most likely don't NEED a double hump crossmember.)
Question is, is there any T56 swap crossmemebers that will work with these SFC? Hawks and Spohn (seem to be the most popular) don't look like they'll work based on the pictures I've seen.
TIA

Re: T56 swap w/ Alston SFC
The Sphon cross member works with very minor trimming. I have the same set-up - with Alston SFC and Sphon T56 cross member - and had to take a small notch out of the horizontal (or top) part of the cross member that would lie flate on the sub-frame. This cut is far from the mounting holes and the cross piece. Use a cut-off wheel, prime, paint and install. BTW I got the cross member with the driveshaft loop (no problems) and the torque arm mount for a sphon torque arm.

Re: T56 swap w/ Alston SFC
Easiest solution, mount the SFCs with some temporary bolts or large screws and start fabricating a transmission mount OFF the SFCs. The trans mount will tie into a vastly stronger part with respect to the bolts in the original subframe and the mount can be located so it's directly under the trans and not some funky bracket that has angle steel to run it away from the bolt holes and then have the actual mount. There is a LOT of stress on the original bolts/threaded inserts from the way those things work.
IGNORE the mount in front of the black powdercoated section, it's a modified TH400 mount that I simply used to keep the transmission in line and at the right angle. It will be removed once the rest is installed and welded in.
Here's some pics of a combo trans mount/ tq arm mount/ drivesahft loop that I fabbed off some MAC SFCs.

Re: T56 swap w/ Alston SFC
I just purchased alston subframe connectors for my t-56 vert. I am using hawks cross member which won't let the alston mount. I don't think I could cut the cross member and still keep it's rigidity. I like the custom cross member but do not have the skills or the equipment to do that. I wish there was an easy solution!

Wow, Twin Turbo's car is beautiful...
BTW, in the case of T5, no trouble using togther with Alston SFC?

Re: T56 swap w/ Alston SFC
so I tried to install MAC sfc on my camaro which is running a T56 w/spohn crossmember and it would require alot of modification to make work. I also am gathering parts to install a ls/T56 in my firebird which already has alston/TDS sfc on it am an wondering if any solutions have been found or do I need to break out the welder and modify a mount or my sfc.
