T56 wiring to auto meter speedo
Sorry if this is covered somewhere else. I'm working on the wiring for my new gauges and took a break to eat dinner and hoping someone might see this for a quick answer by the time I get done eating.
I had a t56 swapped into my car and used to have a mechanical speedo. So I bought new gauges and have gotten everything wired up except the speed sender from the transmission. It's two wires, one must be the signal wire, but what is the other?
Can't find any info after a couple quick searches on what the other is supposed to be for.
Thanks!

The VSS is mounted in the transaxle and generates an AC voltage signal with a frequency proportional to vehicle speed. The PCM takes the voltage pulses from the sensor and uses them to close a solid state output switch. The output terminal is switched to ground at a rate proportional to vehicle speed.

Re: T56 wiring to auto meter speedo
Well my speedometer from auto meter doesn't look like that one. I've only got a sig terminal not an SQ and SINE. However, running one wire to ground and one wire to sig from the speed sensor got a signal to the speedometer. I've got to calibrate it still, got to find a 2 mile stretch to do that, but it's at least getting a signal. I'll re-address it if I have any further problems after calibrating it.

Apparently they did away with the two seperate inputs on the newest model.
In either case 2 wire sending unit is to reference ground.

Yeah, thanks again. That seems to work fine. Got the speedometer calibrated today and checked it against my GPS and it's pretty much dead on.

Re: T56 wiring to auto meter speedo
IM having the same problem with my autometer gauge, got a yellow and purple wire coming from the connector, I have the yellow ran to the sig and purple to ground, the gauge lights up and the hand moves, but I'm not getting a reading after I calibrate it, any detailed info would be heally great on the issue were having, only other alternative is to get the gps unit.

I'm pretty sure you also need the autometer vss which is a 16,000 ppm

Re: T56 wiring to auto meter speedo
I have Autometer 5888 Phantom gauge, I followed the instructions that autometer provided, there is only two wires on my VSS, one is a ground and the other is signal that goes to gauge. I can't remember which colour is signal wire, but I know when I originally hooked them up it did not work, so I changed them around and it worked perfectly, all I had to do after that was to calibrate
