4l60e slips in 2nd after 4000rpm only in OD

Hi guys,

The problem I noticed is that transmission slips in 2nd gear at WOT after 4000rpm, and it looks like it is in N after that. That is happening when tranny is in OD and I srarted from the stop light with WOT, and also when I drive in 4th and converter is locked and I pushed the pedal to the floor. It downshift to second and after 4000 slips.

If I put tranny in 2 and do WOT, everything is OK and it goes to red line and shift to 3rd. Also, If I go from stop light in 1 with WOT, and manually change gears, everything is OK. So the problem persists only in OD (I didn't try in D, but I doubt there is point to do that ).

Does anybody know what may be the problem?

Thanks in advance.

I'm currently experimenting with a similar problem. Car is a 92' Camaro and has had an LS1/4L60E swapped in. I purchased the car for a "deal" but feel it might need a transmission rebuild.

When in OD or D and the car downshifts to second via kickdown, the engine will spin up, but the car goes no where...take your foot off the gas, and the car upshifts, and begins moving...seems like 2nd gear is slipping pretty good to me. Also, couldn't get the car to shift from 2nd to 3rd at WOT. I feel a rebuild is in my future, but we'll see. Might go try putting the car in 2 and seeing what happens...just not tonight, i'm tired as all get out.

Before jumping into a rebuild, check the TPS.Also have the trans scanned for any codes. You can ck the TPS with a volt meter. You should have 3 wires, blue, gray, balck.Yours may be different.1 wire is the 5v reference,1 is ground,w is the signal wire.I forget which is the voltage signal. With key on,engine off, back probe the blue(I think) to ck that you have 5 volts @ the sensor. If so,you are getting voltage from ECM.Next probe the other wire while someone slowly opens throttle to WOT.Watch the voltages as they do.You should have approx .45 to .5 volts with throttle closed.Voltage should smoothly steadily increase as throttle is opened. No jumping around or flat spots. You should have 4.5 to 5 volts @ WOT.

To my knowledge, the overrun sprag/clutches are not engaged when in the OD position, but they are in 1,2, and D. Could be related to an input sprag not holding. Not saying this is it, but another option to think about or look into.
