Getting to the point of installing the 5.3/4l60 do I need a 3rd gen 700r4 shift cable or a 4th gen 4l60e cable

Re: Which cable to use

4L60E doesn't use a cable. It's electronic. ("E")

What transmission do you actually have?

Re: Which cable to use

Sorry; I was thinking TV cable. Must have got a brain cramp right then.

You prolly want to use the shift cable for your car. Maybe change the shift lever on the trans if you have to; but I don't think you will.

Re: Which cable to use

700 and 4L60 have the same dimensions/locations for the shift shafts -- even the threads are the same. All your 86 stuff should attach directly on..... unless -- Depending on which year your new trans is, some of the shift shafts stick out farther (if they have the neutral switch on the side of the trans) -- fyi.
