TH400 Build
I want to build my TH400 I just got with a manual valve body, high performance clutch packs, and a beefier sprag. It would be cool to have a trans brake, too.
In addition to a vale body what would I need to get the transmission to shift instantly with no lag? And what would I need to eliminate all hoses and cables with the exception of the shift cable?
I'll get into converters once I've determined what my engine build is going to be.

Re: TH400 Build
There is a right way to build the TH400 and a wrong way. If you want it to last and not wear out the parts unnecessarily quick. Always run the vacuum modulator. I can help you out with the right information and parts if you do not already have them. What motor is going in front of it? What has been done to the motor? Type of vehicle it is going into? What is the intention of the vehicle? And anything else that I would need to know here? Call me if you want 909 795-1876 anytime in the afternoon or evening as I work late most of the time. Dana

Re: TH400 Build
The engine is a 350 with 487x heads equipped with full roller rockers, an Edelbrock 600 cfm, and an aftermarket cam (not sure what yet, but fairly mild with I'm assuming flat tappet hydraulic lifters, still need to pull the timing cover to look).
The craziest I will get with this engine is maybe a cam with slightly more lift. What I'm really looking for in the car is shifts with absolutely no lag from the time I move the shifter to the moment the transmission is in the gear I selected. I would also like to have control of the shift points, so I will most likely go with a manual valve body. I'm leaning more towards the forward shift pattern. Seems like it would be more street friendly. Other than that, a list of parts to accomplish what I'm looking for would be great! Thanks!

Re: TH400 Build
For the rebuild kit. Go to: https://www.700r4l60e.com/store/prod...&cat=15&page=1 To keep it fully automatic and have the shifts happen when you move the shift lever. Do not use the electrical downshift setup. Install a heavy weight governor. You will have full automatic upshifts when normal driving. There will be no automatic downshifts. You must backshift the lever to get a downshift and give it throttle at the same time when you do this, otherwise it is hard on the transmission back shifting without giving it throttle to match the next gear quickly. Once you have done this, you can let off the throttle and deaccelerate with out hurting anything. If you are downshifting to accelerate, give it throttle at the same time you back shift the lever and then floor it quickly.

Re: TH400 Build
If I were to have manual down shifts I would want manual up shifts too. I'll check out that rebuild kit.
