Car: 1992 Camaro RS & 1992 Camaro RS
Engine: 3.1 L v6 & 305 (5.0L) v8
Transmission: 4L60 Auto
Quick TV Cable question.
After doing a TV cable adjustment under the hood twice and a fluid and filter change I'm left with the same symptom.
Shift from 1st to 2nd doesn't happen unless I let up on the gas. If I keep the RPM below 2500, shift happens naturally. 2nd to 3rd band apply is sluggish with a slight delay.
Shifting while climbing an incline seems to aggravate the symptom.
Is this the Cable itself OR is it the valve body spring and valve?

Agreed. Sounds like the throttle valve could be getting hung up in the valve body, or the tv spring is worn leading to short spring syndrome.
Time to get a trans pressure gauge and check pressures.
IIRC
195psi 1st and 2nd
220psi 3rd and 4th.
If those are incorrect feel free to chime in and I will change them. Don't quite remember the pressures in neutral or reverse.

What is the part number for the stock replacement kit TV plunger, o-rings and springs? OR who sells it.
I don't want the performance kit, just stock replacement. I see the performance kits everywhere online. Not interested.
The TV cable replacement from throttle to transmission had no effect. Still able to run through all the gears smooth as glass below 2500rpm (v6) Get above that in 2nd and the tranny is in neutral till I come off the gas and get back on to get to 3rd.

For those you come later, My problem ended up being the 1-2 accumulator broken spring and leaking piston. Sonnax parts are here:

Don't forget about the governor. Mine exhibited similar symptoms that were caused by the valve in the governor sticking. A quick swap fixed it, until the transmission died a few weeks later when the TV cable broke.

There is a round cover on the driver side near the tail. It can be a bear to get off, but that's all that holds the governor in. I used a chisel to get mine off. Pull the governor straight out. You should put a jack under the crossmember and lower the tail a bit, just mind you don't let the distributor hit the firewall. There will be some fluid loss, but not much. If the piston does not move back and forth freely inside the governor, then it is bad. You can find them online and even some dealers. I got mine secondhand.

What was your behavior before the replacement? Did it hang? Not shift, only shift when you lift the gas? What gears?

It would not upshift under any throttle, and still didn't want to when backed off. The saying that the TV cable is the transmission's only link to the outside world is incorrect. Shifting is a balancing act between the throttle valve and the governor, which is activated by the transmission output shaft speed (this "sensing" of vehicle speed is the other link). If either one is fault, you can get the symptoms you describe. I recommend checking the governor before dropping the pan as it costs less to inspect since you loose less fluid.

I have my replacement governor in. What did you use to push the governor cover cap back on? Pry bar with a block of wood against the car frame?
I already did the pan drop and replaced the 1-2 accumulator spring and piston using Sonnax parts. Also replaced the TV valve and spring in the valve body. Hope this governor does the trick. My gear was well worn.

I used the side of a hammer and alot of harsh language If your gear looked like an apple core, then it was definitely in need of replacement. Good luck!

No change in behavior. Guess I'll pull the servo next. Last shot at on vehicle service. After this it's off to the rebuild shop for new bands, drive drum and clutchs I guess.

i had this same problem in a 700r4 that i had swapped into my 74 Monte Carlo... i fixed it by pulling the tv cable all the way out as far as it could go with the engine idling.. i don't know or care what it did inside the trans because i don't really understand the witchcraft that goes on in there, but it worked..

My sentiments exactly! Automatic transmissions are little more than a box of magic...which mine ran out of and it had been discontinued.
