Re: Clutch master ans slave cylinder replacement

The slave isn't difficult at all, but the master can be a bother. The trick is to go whole-hog and do it right. Disconnect the master cylinder pushrod from the pedal, then the mounting u-bolt on the firewall. The slave cylinder has only two bolts holding to the bell housing. Remove them, the hydraulic line and the reservoir together as an assembly if you don't want leaking fluid to hurt your paint. I found that separating the brake master from the booster (without disconnecting the brake lines) gave my arms more room to move. Use a punch to remove the roll pins that hold the master and slave to the hydraulic line. DO NOT REUSE THE O-RINGS. Your new cylinders will come with new ones. Once you have it all back together as an assembly, bleed the system on a bench like this:
If you do it this way, you will know the system is good before you even put it in the car (so long as you don't take it apart.) Put it back in the car as an assembly, put everything back the way you found it and enjoy!
