T56 or T5

So, what do you guys think? T56 or have my T5 built?
Thinking of going back to stick. I have 450fwhp flowing from my 383. I have currently a 700r4 and am thinking of switching it up. Car had the T5 in it and I have everything to put it back. Are TKO or G-force good tran companies?

Im just kicking this idea around... oh the car has 373 in rear end. I will tell ya, I love the gearing in the 700r4, and I know the T5 has that low first gear too.
I guess I miss shifting and ripping around. Total street car.

I know either way will set me back around 2-3k i think.

Thanks guys.

For the money you'd put in the T5, even with already having everything else for the swap, I'd rather invest that in a TKO. It would be much stronger and will use most of the T5 stuff. The six speed sounds nice, but $2K for a used and abused transmission is just too hard to justify for me.

Re: T56 or T5

I would go with a T56. There is at least a couple of guys that rebuild them locally. But only one that I think still does them for other people.

Re: T56 or T5

Anyone use any of these? D&D Performance, Pro Force, G-Force...
Pro Motion Performance Powertrain Looks like they make/rebuild a killer T5

Im kinda curious as to where these companies get there product? Who cuts the gears/shafts?

Timken bearings or do they say Japan on them...

Think Im going to pick up the phone and see what I can find out. The web pages dont get that deep.

Any info from anyone is much appreciated.

Yes, I'll ask and see if they still do them or not. It's been a while since I've talked to either one.

Re: T56 or T5

Sorry, didn't pan out. The one guy I was thinking of never got back to me. We used to have a local forum where it was easier to pass along info like this.

Re: T56 or T5

someone makes a bulletproof trans that looks a lot like a T5, but has a modern external rail type shifter on it that costs not much more than a TKO- hell, it might even be the same company. i was running one thru the gears at their tent at the big car show in St Paul last weekend..
