Full manual valve body

Ive got a 85 700r4 freshly rebuilt with a shift kit 0miles on it because the car is still getting rebuilt and was wondering if i throw in a manual valve body for the street and not the strip will it wear out my trans faster than just leaving it with the shift kit

Re: Full manual valve body

It's not like you think it is. That gets REAL old, REAL fast.

Everybody that I know that has ever had one of those on the street, has HATED it within about 2 days of putting it in. EVERY ONE. I doubt you'll be any different from the rest of the world.

I'd recommend against it.

Re: Full manual valve body

I fully agree with sofa.. It is NOT like driving a stick shift car. Its hard and jerky going from 3 to 1 or 4 to 2 or 1.. Its a pain on the street, and even more of a pain on a mild or stock low HP car.

If it's needed on a pro street drag car, it's worth putting up with... For a real street car it is NOT worth it.

Re: Full manual valve body

A good shift kit is far superior to a manual valve body in a street car.

Manual valve body means you can start in any gear. Put it in drive and drive away from a dead stop in high gear and burn out your clutches. Manual valve body also don't allow engine braking in anything other than first gear. Let off the throttle while driving and you coast instead of slow down. This can be very dangerous when driving in traffic.

Depending on the transmission and the valve body, it can be forward or reverse pattern. Forward pattern means the transmission gears go PRN321 just like normal. A reverse pattern is PRN123. That means when you're driving around in high gear and you need to stop and go to reverse, you need to shift down all the gears before getting into neutral.

Leave the manual valve bodies for track only cars. If you want to shift like a manual transmission, get rid of the automatic and install a manual.
