Car: 1988 Camaro RS
Engine: 2.8L v6
Transmission: 700r4 stock?
Axle/Gears: peg leg one tire fire
2.8 700r4 swap
So my camaro is siting for the winter thankfully. The transmission blew up a couple months ago, so i bought a temporary replacement transmission ready to go in when spring comes.
My only concern is the transmission i got is from a 2wd 2.8l blazer. I heard the tailshafts may be different, so im planning on swapping tailshafts. However im not sure if the torque converters are the same on the blazer and camaros. If not, can anyone provide a link for a stock 2.8l torque converter? Im having a hard time finding one with the correct stall speed.
Thanks!
Ben

Re: 2.8 700r4 swap
Tailshaft housing will NOT be the same. Yours will have the through bolt holes for the torque arm mount... The blazer one will not.
Torque converter should have a little sticker on it. That sticker has a code on it, that code tells the stall..
Here is something I saved off the internet years ago. Tells the codes for the converters
Torque Converter
Note
700R4 converter's come in both a 10'' and 12'' diameter. 10'' is found behind 4 cyl. and V6 while the 12'' is in everything else. There are 8 different 10'' converters and 7 different 12'' converters. The differences in both the 10'' & 12'' are converter stall speed and dampener spring rate. The 12'' comes in a 27 or 30 input spline and a 3 or 6 mounting pad design. GM uses a sticker code (decal) or a ink # stamped on the flywheel side of the converter to ID the different stall speeds and spring rates.
Also
700R4's used behind 6.2L Diesel engines MUST use a converter with a poppet release valve. The poppet valve releases the Lock Up clutch on deceleration (coast) to prevent a chugging feeling. Never install a poppet valve converter behind a gas motor or you'll have a neutral on 3-4 upshift, 3-4 shuttle or in and out of Lock Up.

Super Important
Be careful if you have to replace any of the converter bolts. Too long of a bolt will dimple the cover and cause the Lock Up clutch to tear up when it applies. You can also cause the same type of problem by hammering the OEM bolts in with an impact wrench.

Re: 2.8 700r4 swap
Sorry to jump on this thread, but if I grab a transmission from a high performance shop on line, how does one mount the T/A? Can the holes be drilled out to install the T/A mount?

Or, one gets an aftermarket arrangement of some sort that mounts the T/A (whether the stock one, or some other one) without using the transmission. Those are very limited in choice and variety for the 700 without replacing the T/A & crossmember together.

Yep what sofa said..
No if's, and's or but's to it... The ONLY 2 ways to do it is
1) replace tail housing with correct third gen F body one
2) or replace torque arm/mount with aftermarket or home fabb'ed unit that moves torque arm off of the transmission and onto a crossmember/bar or saddle mount.
The old Hurst and B&M th-350 and th-400 swap kits had a plate that bolted to tail housing of th-350/400 using 2 of the housing bolts, then torque arm mount bolted to plate.
Then of course you have the aftermarket torque arms that uses a new torque arm cross member bar that you weld to your car, other units that replaces your stock trans crossmember and TQ arm bolts to a stand off on that new crossmember, other units that has a saddle plate that bolts into the trans tunnel, etc
