how much should i pay for a rear end

I was searching ebay for a g92 rear end with disc brakes. I found this.

I thought 650 forhttp://m.ebay.com/itm/82-92-Camaro-Firebird-9-Bolt-Borg-Garner-Rear-End-Differential-3-27-Gears-/191789949114?_trkparms=aid%253D222007%2526algo%253DSIC.MBE%2526ao%253D1%2526asc%253D20150519202348%2526meid%253D58bbfb70de03495e95712918379af09f%2526pid%253D100408%2526rk%253D2%2526rkt%253D10%2526sd%253D161849748471&_trksid=p2056116.c100408.m2460 that ball of rust. By the time i clean paint replace brake system i would be able to by new from hawks for a few more hundred. But then i thought well what is a good price for used performance third gen?

Second question i have is what gearing is best for my 305? I have 3.08 right now would like to go 3.27 would my 305 get bogged down or would it be an improvement? I have the 305 with the better cam according to what i read on here. 145 speedo 5500 redline if that info helps.

Re: how much should i pay for a rear end

Well i was tooling around on hawks and get the rearend for 500 used. But the questions about gearing and my 305 are still good to be answered. It just sucks being on the freeway when i need to go faster it just feels like i dont move. But whe i am leaving stop light or letting my daughter talk me into doing donuts its a beast.

Re: how much should i pay for a rear end

Iunno about either of the links, since they don't work.

However I can tell you, I would not pay EVEDN ONE DIME for a rear with the Saginaw (cast iron, 82-88) brakes on it.

If however, whatever rear you are trying unsuccessfully to link to, has the PRB (aluminum) calipers, then MAYBE it would be worth at least looking into.

Changing gears from 3.08 to a 3.27 is so minimal you won't feel too much difference. I would go with a 3.73 set to really feel a seat of the pants difference. Get a good quality set also to keep noise level down.

Re: how much should i pay for a rear end

mild small blocks love 3.42 gears..

i got a hell of a deal, but i got a complete rear end out of an '00 Z28 for $300 last spring. it has 3.42 gears, factory locker, and disc brakes. this exact rear end usually goes for $700 or so from what i have seen. he gave me the torque arm and panhard bar to me for free.. it was a direct bolt in to my 86 but it did make my track width about 3.5" wider overall. then i went back the next weekend and gave him $100 for the aluminum driveshaft from the same car..

Agreed 3.73 or 3.42 are great for a 305.
