Muncie 4 speed swap
I have an old 4 speed laying around and I don't feel like spending a ton of money on a t56. I havnt been able to find anything about swapping a 4 speed into a third gen and was wondering if anybody has done it, or if it is even possible. Thanks

You can't avoid spending the money. It goes 1 of 2 ways:
Spend a ton of money on gas and have a car running RPM that leaves it loud above city speeds.
Or spend money on a transmission with overdrive and be money ahead in the long term.
Instead of using the search on this forum, which has posts going back over 15 years, search google with "muncie thirdgen.org" and you can read several of them.
The best part? There are still people who will pay money for an old 4 speed laying around. Especially if it's a Muncie.
You can add information to your profile about what kind of car / transmission you have here.

Re: Muncie 4 speed swap
I put a BW SuperT10 in my 88. The pain is finding the transmission that fits. In order to put the shifter in the proper position you have to use a transmission with a unique tail housing that puts the shifter mounting attach points on the passenger side of said tail housing. And this tail housing will only accommodate a 27 spline yoke. They are hard to find and when you do the seller wants all your money. And Hurst doesn't offer the linkage for the shifter. So I had to make my own. The other drawback is that if you use a scattershield like the Lakewood ones, you can't use shorty headers like Dyno Don's. The passenger side collector hits the bellhousing at the starter well.
It's fun as hell to drive though.
GO with the T5 or T56. Much easier.
