Hello everyone I am having a problem with my 1988 Pontiac GTA slipping out of gear at between 80-100 mph and struggling to get over 110mph. Everything on the car is stock the way it rolled out of the factory in 1988 except for the after market alarm system.


Part of the problem did appear to be low transmission fluid which was solved after the leaky transmission pan and gasket were changed. Something is likely worn out from age because the car sat in a garage since between 1995-1997.


The symptoms are that the engine will rev very high and I will naturally let off the gas to drop the revs down and through the course of owning this car have never let them even when this happens go above the 4000 rpm range. Also the car shifts roughly and sort of jolts into gear.


The performance up to high speed is great and even if I jump on it everything is so tight that it will chirp the tires slightly every gear shift so it is just the absolute top end that I am having trouble with.






I am trying to be as descriptive as possible in the hopes that someone can help me figure out what the issue is here because I really do love this car.

you cant upshift into 4th under full throttle. you have to let off to switch. Simple upgrades fix it.

Transgo makes a 3-4 upshift valve that will give you full throttle upshifts
