Slipyoke side to side play?
Hi!
I did some maintenance on my camaro -89 for the upcoming season and while I was checking the u-joints in the rear driveshaft I noticed a bit of side to side play on the slipyoke to the tranny. Does anybody know any tolerance on the side to side play between the slipyoke and the outcoming axle from the transmission?
I got some vibrations coming at around 90mph so I was thinking if it would be the side to side play causing those vibrations.
Thanks!

Could be the cause of a vibe...
Should fit tight; at a guess, no more than .010" or so of slop. Low enough that it shouldn't be detectable by hand.
Sounds like you need an extension housing bushing. Not a big deal at all. The part costs like $1 here in the States; the same one fits LOTS of transmissions, don't know how many or which ones, but it's QUITE A FEW. There's a tool that can pull it out on the car and knock a new one in, or, the extension housing pops right off (4 bolts) and anybody with a normal bushing installer can swap it out. Shouldn't take more than about 30 seconds to swap it.

I got like .1" slop!
Definitely an opportunity for a solution.
That link looks like it has everything you'll need... except of course, the tool.

Re: Slipyoke side to side play?
Dropped the extension housing today and replayced the bushing, changed the oil and filter and added an oil cooler as well.
Testdrive....BAM 0-110mph and no vibrations at all
