even though the car isnt used for daily driving anymore. i dont want to get chirping or jumping around turns like i could get from a locker. the limited slip diff seems probably where i would look for this. could you find a part number or a link for the trutrac for these cars, i couldnt locate one.

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

There is no way that I would even consider the Auburn. If I were you I would remove it from the list of options.

The Yukon Dura Grip is an almost exact copy of the Eaton Posi. The main difference between them is the clutch material. I've installed several of the Yukon units and I have no complaints. The Eaton Truetrac is also a good option.

Also look at some of the new units from Power Trax. They have a copy of the Eaton Truetrac and a copy of the old Traction Lock.

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

Something else that you might want to consider is upgrading to 28 spline axles. This would be the time to do it. Instead of getting a 26 spline unit just get a 28 spline and a set of axles. Chances are that your axles need to be replaced anyway due to wear from the axle bearings.

what would the benefit of upgrading splines be? would i have to get a new ring and pinion?

You could keep your ring and pinion, 28 spline axles are stronger than the 26. And I vote you get a torsen

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

28 spline axles are stronger, and you only have to replace the differential to upgrade. You are going to replace the differential anyway, so this is the time to upgrade. There is a good chance that your original axles are worn where the bearings run on them, so they would need to be replaced anyway.

Lol as much as I want to upgrade parts and stuff, unfortunately I still have a budget since I have a house and a newborn to pay for lol. I wish I could buy all this stuff but I think for axles I'd save up till I can afford to do rear disk brakes too

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

its probably a good idea to just discard the idea of doing a locker, right? I'm still looking into the trutrack but its hard to find it for me for some reason. I am considering the axle replacement just because its only $250. summit just shows a set of moser axles, however they dont have good reviews. do you guys have any other suggestions? I'm not really well versed in the performance parts stuff

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

Tom's Differentials has high quality made in the USA axles that will fit and the price is good. He is probably the largest Eaton dealer in the world and has good prices on all of their products. He also has great installation kits and shims.

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

Get a used torsen out of a 99-02 Trans Am/SS, if you buy used you'll have saved enough to pick up some axles.

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

If you go that route make sure the unit is complete, they often are missing the center lock plate thing and its very hard to find.

What do you mean ring & pinion job? You're going to have to set up the ring & pinion on the new carrier no mater what.

Re: Need help deciding LSD!

Don't have to set up the pinion, only the backlash and differential bearing preload.
